View Full Version : Twisted Extreme Sports - Character - Erilaz
erilaz 09-09-2002, 05:14 AM Whee! I'm all geared up for this one! It's weird, but I was only thinking the other day that it would be cool for CGTalk to do a challenge on over-the-top sports. I really was, no joke!:surprised
Well, here we go. This will be more difficult, since I have to keep people guessing.
First concept drawing! Yes, he's shivering. But is it from cold, or from fear?;)

erilaz
09-09-2002, 07:19 AM
No, nothing that deviant HellRender!
My drawing is not exceptional at the best of times, but here is another clue!
A powered board! "Oooh..." I hear you say. Why is it powered? Well, probably not for the reason you're thinking! (I am hopeless at intrigue, aren't I?):D
erilaz
09-09-2002, 07:28 AM
Yes I saw! Hasn't my comment come through yet?
erilaz
09-09-2002, 08:45 AM
Oooh, I've got to get to a drawing class quick!!:surprised
Bees. You can't have this sport without 'em!:D
erilaz
09-09-2002, 08:47 AM
Just in case you didn't know what a bee looks like in my head!:D
erilaz
09-09-2002, 01:01 PM
And a device. I'm almost set to get modelling!:D
erilaz
09-09-2002, 01:26 PM
Everything has to start somewhere, so I might as well show you as much development as possible!:D
If you couldn't tell from my drawings, the guy only has shorts and shoes on. Oh, and two other things, which I won't divulge yet!:wip:
drunkenmaster20
09-09-2002, 02:02 PM
I'd say the shaking was definitely due to bees, however they may be used. Maybe some sort of 'knock down ginger' on bees nests.
BrainFaucet
09-09-2002, 02:09 PM
HAHAHA!
This is great!
Is it "Grab the Honey"?
Can't wait to see more!
Clanger
09-09-2002, 04:34 PM
Is he going to be covered in sugar? Just to make the bees more interested.
Lorenzo
09-09-2002, 06:25 PM
That's a Nice puzzle, I'm looking back to your tread for update.
This time I also like to participate on this one (challenge).
:applause: :wip:
MMMMH...So curious..looks like ur sport will be a frantic one!..
( hemm i hope the english is correct!!)
CactusJack
09-09-2002, 06:36 PM
mmm...honey...
i'm gonna watch this one close...
erilaz
09-09-2002, 09:38 PM
Whoa! That's the largest dang series of comments I've ever seen! Thanks guys!:D
drunkenmaster20: The shaking has a little to do with bees. Well, okay, about three quarters is about the bees!
BrainFaucet: I'd thought about that concept, but this is a little more... odd!
Clanger: Oooh... inciteful!:D No, not sugar. Not SUGAR.:p
Lorenzo: Thanks! It's good to see I'll be watched!
OZ: Frantic is an understatement, my friend!
CactusJack: Don't watch too close! You don't want to burn yourself! :D
I'll post again really soon!
erilaz
09-09-2002, 10:39 PM
Thanks Hellrender!
Bit more character work.
One big WIP!!:wip: :wip:
To bee or not to bee....... that´s the question! I won´t participate this month but i´ll be(e) watching your progress!! Good luck, my friend!
erilaz
09-12-2002, 01:37 AM
Thanks buddy! Pity you won't be in this one, it's going to be fun!
I've been busy the last couple of days, and already it looks like i'm behind! I'd better get cracking!:bounce:
erilaz
09-12-2002, 04:35 AM
Oooohhh... the beginnings of the mysterious board... what could it possibly do? Why does it have that weird egg-shaped thing on the back? Oooohh...
Are you intrigued yet? I'm guessing not!!:D
drunkenmaster20
09-12-2002, 07:20 AM
the 'egg' thing looks like an incense burner, although I can't imagine why it would be on the back of a snowboard.. Intriguing
erilaz
09-12-2002, 11:11 AM
An interesting perception drunkenmaster20! It's not an incense burner, but I like your thinking!:D
So if it's not an incense burner, what is it???
Keep those guesses coming! I'm not going to tell you what it is, but keep guessing!
erilaz
09-12-2002, 11:45 AM
Whee! Fun, fun, fun! I hope I can pull my idea off well. Here's a bit more character shaping.
Oh, and for those that have a thing about spheres for eyes, they're just there for placeholders.:wip:
erilaz
09-12-2002, 11:47 AM
And for those that care, here's a bit of wireframe!
erilaz
09-12-2002, 12:22 PM
More board work. Some cushy foot pads and a plate-thingy.
Satyricon
09-12-2002, 12:30 PM
Love your style buddy!!! Keep on rolling!!!:buttrock: I' m going to keep an eye on your updates:thumbsup: Catch you later!
erilaz
09-12-2002, 01:37 PM
Thanks for the encouragement Satyricon!
Needless to say, this bee is just the beginning, because at the moment it looks like a spider-ant crossbreed that was run over by a road-line painter.:D
Working... working...:wip:
Gosh!Too much mistery here!!! U got to run after the bee in ur sport?:scream: Hee gooo...more....goo!
erilaz
09-12-2002, 09:32 PM
No OZ, no running after the bees... but there will be lots of action!:D
erilaz
09-13-2002, 04:23 AM
Working... working... :wip:
I know I'm making him cartoony, but does this look vaguely human?
CactusJack
09-13-2002, 04:36 AM
A nose, mouth, and ears....that would make it look vaguely human.
:wip: :wip: :wip: :wip: :wip:
looking....humanly...uh...human.
cant wait for you next update.
clothes may add a touch...of...uh...humanism....
alright, alright...i'll shut up....
erilaz
09-13-2002, 11:14 AM
Um... thanks CactusJack! I think...:D
Facial things will come soon. I just realised I've left my main file at work! Dang it!
erilaz
09-13-2002, 01:45 PM
One mouth.
Keep in mind I'm trying to go for the sort of look in my first post. Facial stuff is not my strong point, so I may rework this quite a few times!!:hmm:
Satyricon
09-13-2002, 10:51 PM
Hello Erilaz. I like your character! Is he alien? Cool!!! Catch you later!:)
erilaz
09-13-2002, 11:47 PM
Not alien (can't have them in the rules), just cartoony. If he looks like an alien, I've got some serious work to do!
Human, but weird-looking, like my first sketch!
Satyricon
09-14-2002, 12:13 PM
NO!!! The character is cartoonish like mine. He is a skiny buddy!!!:) Keep up the good work mate. See u later:bounce:
erilaz
09-15-2002, 09:37 PM
Thanks both! :D
I just bought a book: The Human Face (Bates, Brian;Cleese, John). A very good book and brilliant for facial reference, so hopefully you'll see some nice expression!
Now I've just got to get the time to practice!:hmm:
monotypic
09-15-2002, 09:54 PM
hahha erilaz you helped inspire me to join in this wip challange. thank you.
erilaz
09-16-2002, 04:33 AM
monotypic: Wow, I don't think I've ever really inspired anyone before... hopefully it's a good thing!:D
Here's a bit of an update. Not happy with this yet. The mouth and teeth really, really suck. It reminds me of bygone days when I was just learning 3d max. Now I'm learning all over again, except with facial detail!
Bleeaark! Give me your opinion.:hmm:
CactusJack
09-16-2002, 05:14 PM
Looking great...
Its now looking human...
Your doing great...
Keep diggin into your inner self, you are sure to find...
many wonderful things...sound like a fortune cookie?
Keep :wip: :wip: :wip: , you can do it!
:applause:
erilaz
09-16-2002, 09:35 PM
Tee hee! Thanks CactusJack!:D
I'm working on it!:wip:
Let's hope I can squeeze this challenge through. Got plenty of time to go, but I've got the feeling I'm going to be struggling to get it finished again! Maybe I need to do a time management course...:hmm:
Until then, it's working through lunch-breaks for me!:D
erilaz
09-16-2002, 10:32 PM
Hmmm... still working on those lips. Any tips on how to make em less sharp?
erilaz
09-17-2002, 12:08 PM
Oh dear.... my bee is still looking like a third-grade primary school nature project!:D
But, hey! Do you like the size of his sting?
neilyb
09-17-2002, 02:33 PM
Well since I am not participating this time, again, I shall have a guess at out running a hord of angry bees while covered in honey...or something like that?? Or is it a sport hwere one must steal the honey...?
Looking good again Erilaz....but lets not have another starving character eh....give him some meat!:wavey:
Satyricon
09-17-2002, 04:00 PM
I like that cartoon look of your models!!!:buttrock: This idea of yours must be very crazy mate!! I think I will agree with neilyb!
See you later buddy:wavey:
CactusJack
09-17-2002, 06:15 PM
post a pic of your lip area showing edges, we should be able to take care of those lips without a problem...just need to see how its built first before i started shooting out suggestions.
 :wip:
erilaz
09-17-2002, 09:35 PM
neilyb: Ah yes, the inevitable skinny thing. I seem to have a theme with that, don't I? Yes, this time around, I'll try and make him a little more meaty. :wip:
Satyricon: Thanks!:D
CactusJack: I think I may have fixed it. I'll post it up later if I still have problems! Ta!:)
Away from men and bees, here's the board again!
erilaz
09-17-2002, 09:37 PM
Underside of the board.
erilaz
09-18-2002, 04:51 AM
Well, he's still looking a bit puny, but I've beefed him up a little. I'd better put some pants on this guy!:hmm:
The ears are still in progress... they're cartoony ears remember!
:D
gwelty
09-18-2002, 07:43 AM
hey, puny is o.k....but i'm still waiting for the bees
erilaz
09-18-2002, 12:06 PM
The bees are also waiting FOR YOU!!! Ahahhaahahaa! and other evil laughter.
More bee work!
gwelty
09-18-2002, 12:10 PM
cooooooooooool...
hey ,and Candyman was just on tv tonight......coincidence????
THE TABLET IS GREAT!!!!!i love the design and the modeling!BUT that bee!!WHAT is that bee.....u must to escape from the bee?:surprised
Great work man.
erilaz
09-18-2002, 12:30 PM
gwelty : Coincidence? Yes. Candyman was nowhere near my TV today! But they are relitively evil bees.:D
OZ: Thanks pal! The bee's the thing that makes the sport interesting. But there's not just one bee. There will be many bees. Funny thing is, they are not as dangerous as the...
Oh, but I've said too much!.... gotta keep some things in suspense!:D
volk23
09-18-2002, 04:26 PM
whats with the bee? im scared!
erilaz
09-18-2002, 09:34 PM
I can't tell you what is up with the bee volk23! That would break the first rule of the challenge!
Beeeee afraid, be very afraid!:D (Groan)
erilaz
09-19-2002, 10:24 PM
Tweaking and shorts! The arms still look a bit blocky, so I may work on that today.
erilaz
09-20-2002, 12:51 AM
Sorry to cross-reference threads, but if you know anything about macromedia director 8.5 3d, can you help me out on here:
http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=20876
Ta!:D
erilaz
09-20-2002, 04:16 AM
Body and shorts work.:D
Satyricon
09-22-2002, 07:39 PM
Hello Erilaz!!:wavey: I like the character design you have done here! Wish I could find out the sport you have in mind!! I just can't wait!
erilaz
09-22-2002, 09:33 PM
Thanks Satyricon! I'm glad my sport still has an element of mystery!:D
Unfortunately, the files I do at work keep getting corrupted somehow, so I keep going two steps forward, one step back (like that old song, except I don't have any opposites attracting... I need more sleep!)
Maybe I should just work on this at home, but I can't resist the temptation of using my nice dual-pentium at work, so I guess I'll just have to throw caution to the wind.
So no work done this weekend unfortunately. I'll try getting something out today.:wavey:
YoGoLo
09-23-2002, 02:33 PM
hehe U keep your style :)
but I think that a little bit less angles look better
I want to say that we think that your man is made from boxes...
try to lose this impression
keep in work :)
erilaz
09-23-2002, 09:42 PM
I'm not sure what you mean by he's made of boxes YoGoLo. Do you mean he's still too blocky? My character is supposed to be angular!:D Or do you mean he's poly-modelled rather than with nurbs? I'm confused!
Ah well, here's the start of the device (I managed to recover one of those files). Is it not a spooky and non-descript thing?
erilaz
09-24-2002, 04:34 AM
More of the thing I call the "device". Doesn't look very scary, but it makes the bees look friendly!:D
erilaz
09-24-2002, 10:28 AM
Now surely you are scared... okay maybe not.:D
Does this actually look like it's something now?
erilaz
09-24-2002, 11:30 AM
More bee. I could do a bad Calvin Klein pun right now, but I'll spare you all the pain.
gwelty
09-24-2002, 12:33 PM
yah it looks like somethin........i just don't know what
it looks better in color....but ya still got me
lookin all good,... i'm watchin....and scratchin my head
erilaz
09-24-2002, 12:38 PM
Thanks gwelty! I figured colour helps. I'm trying to texture this time around.:D
Speaking of colour, does this skin look right? (Remember, he's cartoony). I've also fixed up a bit of the mouth problems I was having.
...but I may redo the head entirely.:hmm:
erilaz
09-24-2002, 12:41 PM
Closer look at the head. Still not sure of it. I also just realised still need to do his hair!!:surprised
gwelty
09-24-2002, 01:12 PM
sure the skin looks o.k.,....why not? i guess the question is, is it what you see in your mind?
same goes for the head to, the center line is a little obvious, but the rest is all about what you want...ain't it?
do you like it....if not there is plenty of time
erilaz
09-24-2002, 01:16 PM
I'm happier with the head, but the reason I ask about the skin colour is I'm partially colour-blind, and don't want him looking green or anything. Although, he may look green anyway after this sport is done!:D
MikaelPersson
09-24-2002, 02:19 PM
Interesting stuff. I dont think I would try this sport out though.
Have you thought of giving his face a bit more structure? Maybe add a hint of checkbones? And a deeper nose-mouth hole (I dont know the name of that recess in english, not in swedish either ;)).
erilaz
09-25-2002, 04:48 AM
Mikael P: Facial definition will come along slowly... as I said, it's not my strongest talent! Thanks for the crit though! It'll get there.
Designer sneakers: A work in progress!:wip:
erilaz
09-25-2002, 01:52 PM
He's thinking "Could my hair possibly look any worse?":D
This is just a test... obviously.:wip:
gwelty
09-26-2002, 04:13 AM
uuuuuuh...............no
CactusJack
09-26-2002, 04:39 AM
OMG! my mother gave me a haircut like that once when I was a kid...Now that I think about it...my wife gave me a cut like that last week...ahhhhhh!!!!
Good going for a first attempt. I have yet to attempt hair like that.
:wip: :wip: :wip: :wip: :wip:
When you figure it out, I'd like to know how you did it...
erilaz
09-26-2002, 12:40 PM
gwelty: uhhhhh..... I agree with you. What was I thinking?:D
CactusJack: Ah yes, the dreaded "mother haircut". We've all been there. Yes, as you can see, I've never done hair before.
I believe this matches the style I'm going for a lot better, but I still need to un-square those edges.
erilaz
09-26-2002, 01:40 PM
More work on the designer sneakers.
Sneakery.:wip:
erilaz
09-29-2002, 01:22 PM
Still a bit blocky, but I'm almost ready to weld this guy together and get rigging.... I'll get to some facial work after the weld.:wip:
Blue shoessssssssssssss
Baby's got blue shoesssssssssssss
sorry....
Haven't read the 1054 post from this thread...so I don't know yet what sport it is...
we've got blue shoes and bees....hum hum....maybe I should read...
;)
HE HE HE HE...cool....ur character got a funny face!!he he he....u are going to do a very good challenge!KEEP IT UP!u are on the right way!
erilaz
09-30-2002, 09:54 PM
Thanks guys!:bounce:
Baby: I don't know if the shoes will actually stay that colour, because at the moment they clash with his shorts. The horror!
OZ: Thanks Mr. OZ! Always a pleasure hearing from you.
Virtuoso: Ta pal, I'm glad you think I'm progressing! Been really busy, so there hasn't been much work on this lately.
Oh, and speaking of being on the right track, and going the right way... that's a clue!!:D
MikaelPersson
09-30-2002, 11:34 PM
hmm. in underwear and his slippers on. Is it some brutal form of waking someone you really dislike?
Would love to see some fear poses of him, teeth chattering and him biting his nails off.
erilaz
10-01-2002, 09:11 AM
Mikael P: No time for sleep here, I'm afraid! Those fear poses are a great idea! I'll get onto it!:D
Looking slightly worried:
MikaelPersson
10-01-2002, 10:03 AM
I would say slightly terrified. :)
erilaz
10-01-2002, 11:27 AM
That's not terrified yet Mikael P! I'm hoping he'll look quite a bit more afraid by the final result! :D
Hmmm... this is a test. And a clue. Ooohhh...
It's not really hard to guess, unless it looks nothing like I'm intending!:wip:
erilaz
10-01-2002, 12:38 PM
Dang it. Now I'm going to have to envelope tweak.:wip:
Right now, he's thinking "Why, oh why did erilaz not model me with my arms angled DOWN???":surprised
erilaz
10-02-2002, 11:58 AM
Hmmm.. more progression. We've moved to arm bending! I've tweaked those shoulder bits, and done a bit of work on the hair, plus I've added a very base background, which is a remote clue.
May need to work on those elbows.
Oh, and another thing. My bees keep crashing my computer when they swarm. Dang it.:hmm:
erilaz
10-02-2002, 01:15 PM
The plot thickens...
erilaz
10-02-2002, 01:17 PM
And now the board has a name!
Virtuoso
10-02-2002, 09:41 PM
Nice advancements Erilaz.............it all looks interesting and well done.
My only crit would be a minor one ...........the letter "K" in Koala I believe is partially missing due to the part of the device that juts out,it is overlapping the letter "K",you will have to bring that part down a slight touch..........
That proximity device looks to have quite the assortment of goodies, pretty interesting toy, keep up the good work.
erilaz
10-02-2002, 10:09 PM
Thanks Virtuoso! I'm surprised you've got time to comment on threads, since your challenge is so massive!:D
Ah, yes, the "K". I only noticed that myself this morning when I changed my screen res. I'd been working in a res too high for a decent refresh rate, and only just realised I couldn't see squat on minor details. Yikes!
I'll fix up that pronto. Ta!
I've still got to strap the device to the guy. Here's about where it'll be. I haven't decided whether to put it on his side front or back yet.
erilaz
10-03-2002, 04:36 AM
Testing some textures. Does this look like snow? :D
MikaelPersson
10-03-2002, 09:27 AM
That proximity device is really something. I dont get anything ;).
Hmm. No I dont think it looks that much like snow. But that is some hard shader to make. (I know). I would suggest trying to add more sparkles, the glitter you got in snow. All those small particles shining. Plus the hint of blue in it.
Just quick suggestions, hope you will make something out of it.
erilaz
10-03-2002, 09:38 AM
Thanks Mikael P! I've never seen snow "live" before, so it makes it harder!:D Thanks for tips, I'll try them out, see what I can come up with.
Ur challenge is going better and better!SuperFUN here!:buttrock: GOOW!
erilaz
10-03-2002, 12:29 PM
Fun, fun, fun indeedy OZ!:D Thanks!
Even more fun, because I've solved my bee problem!!
Now they can SWARM! Well, a little.
erilaz
10-04-2002, 01:24 AM
Boarding away!:D
You can see I need to fix the skinning on the shorts at the front.:wip:
How's it looking?
Virtuoso
10-04-2002, 02:07 AM
He is really coming along Erilaz..................the improvements are quite noticable with each update, keep going, the character is really showing "Character". The bees in swarm mode too is very interesting..............better turn off the proximity device, you might get stung....................Looking good..........
Some snow pictures, hope it might help!

10-05-2002, 07:45 AM
Whee! I'm really, really tired! :D
Virtuoso: Thanks my friend, you've told me exactly what I need to hear. 1)That I seem to be improving, and 2) My character actually has character!! :bounce:
But you may be wrong about what the proximity device is for...:p
Baal: Hey, thanks for those. I'll browse and see what I can do about my snow shader.
No update just yet. Maybe tonight. My envelopes are screwing up my shorts a bit.
It's funny; if the majority of you on here didn't do 3d, you'd think what I just said then was crazy!
Satyricon
10-05-2002, 12:44 PM
Hello Erilaz!!! Great work so far mate!!!:buttrock: Better and better every day!!!
future14
10-06-2002, 03:54 AM
hey man, what a cool character, great work! keep on man........
erilaz
10-06-2002, 01:44 PM
Satyricon, future14, thanks guys.:D
Another angle and a little bit of background work. Snow still not like snow (gotta get the blue into it, plus the sparkly things!).

10-07-2002, 02:38 PM
cowabunga,............lookin really good
erilaz
10-08-2002, 10:11 AM
Bit of brownish belting. Binds brainy box by boyish boarder. Bad bees brackishly buzz by.:D

10-08-2002, 12:28 PM
stranger and stranger. :)
erilaz
10-08-2002, 01:26 PM
Mikael P, I'll take that as a compliment!:D
It's strapped, it's almost secure, now bring on the other stuff...
MikaelPersson
10-08-2002, 02:32 PM
You should. :)
How about having some photos of mountains in the background? Would add lots of depth to your renderings.
erilaz

Dang it, lost my post when I realised my image was too large. (I'd written a lot!):hmm:
It's funny you should say that Mikael P, because I'd just taken a mountain picture out of my scene before rendering that last one. It was one of the default mountain pictures from max. I try to steer clear of using default max pictures if I can, to keep things original. I'll put one in now of my good ol' home town.
Goo. Test goo. :wip:

Ta Virtuoso!:D
Well, there's only 6 days to go, and I'm feeling slacker than a pair of let-out pants. I've been reformatting my machine at work to get ready for a shiny new max 5 upgrade, and I've really been too tired to work on this at home.
I'll try and stich something together this week, but I've lost motivation. I wish I'd stop doing that!!:annoyed: Maybe I need to watch Monsters Inc. again to get me back into the mood.

no, don't let all your work get spilled when you've commed this far! stop slacking and watch monsters inc, then start working again. I really wan't to see the scene with the bee's(and why bee's? :) )
take care

You're right of course, fellah. I'm just having a low week. I'll get motivated.
Here's proof! The bees look a bit stagnant right now, but they'll get there.
Any idea how to make goo look like goo without getting realFlow? :D
HE HE HE HE ! BLASTING FUNNY!!!!.........go on!:applause:

Thanks OZ! Blasting is true, but only if... oh wait, I can't tell you that bit, it would give it away!
Just testing some hot metal shaders and steamy things, which is also to give you more of a clue of what it going on here!:D
erilaz
10-15-2002, 04:27 AM
The sphere has nothing to do with the scene by the way, just testing the shader for another object. :D
More steamy tests.

Now that looks like a board affiliated with bees!:D

Underside. Now do you see where this sport is going?
CactusJack
10-15-2002, 05:53 PM
you should put some motion blur on the bees...so it looks like they are really chasing your character...:wip:
looking great!:applause:

10-15-2002, 09:30 PM
Naturally, CactusJack! It'll all come out in the final renders. I'm still setting them up at the moment. Thanks.:D
It's all starting to come together. Slowly. Only 3 more days!:bounce:

looking forward to the final masterpiece!!!:applause:

Unfortunately I'm going to have to get my "final masterpiece" (thanks CactusJack!) UP BY TOMORROW NIGHT!:scream:
I'm heading off to see my nephew for his birthday the following day, so I won't be near my pc again until Sunday.
Hopefully it will look like something decent. It's the closest I've come to finishing since my first challenge here (see avatar <-- ).
No update tonight. Need sleep desperately.:D

Okay, so, here's the probelm I'm having. Motion Blur crashes my system.... hmmm.... not sure what to do. With all my RAM, it's still clocks into virtual memory, dang it!:annoyed:
Oh, and for all you stats-addicts, my scene comprises of:
-- 507 Objects
-- 5 Lights (I just realised!)
-- 2,257,612 Faces
-- 30 Shaders
--3d Max 4.2, Scanline renderer.
I've got most of the night free, so I'm going to try and get the honey on his chest to look right. At the moment it looks like... like a non-honey-looking thing.
Well, here's a little more detail work. Mainly working on particle systems and shaders here. Is the blue tinge in the snow too subtle?
MikaelPersson
10-17-2002, 11:07 AM
:) scary. Yes, you should alter the blue in the snow somewhat. More towards the stone(?) river in the front. But dont go to much on my words, the monitor I am using right now doesnt have the best of colours.
erilaz
10-17-2002, 11:24 AM
Between your monitor and my defective colour-vision, the snow may end up green Mikael P!!:D Thanks for the help. I'll blue it up a bit.
Honey. It's starting to look like honey.... isn't it?:hmm:
I'm working on the spread, stickyness and flying-goo factor at the moment.
By the way, has anyone worked out what is going on here yet?:D
erilaz
10-17-2002, 12:35 PM
Thanks Virtuoso! It really encourages me to read such praising words!:D
And as to your guess... you're on the right track, but not quite. Put it all together. The honey, the hill, the "SI" board, the bees, the proximity device. Does it make any sense? I promise a full explaination by my final post! It's a bit oddball, so I doubt anyone will get it completely.
Oh, one hint is that this is a competion sport. ie. There's more than one person competing, like a race. I wanted to focus on one character however, rather than a few.
Bluer snow and some particle tweaks!
Virtuoso
10-17-2002, 12:55 PM
Ok let's see now....................I like this update again,but.............Somehow I think that while the bluer snow looks better again,it should be somewhere inbetween the previous color and the most recent,a fine line I know but just an opinion. Also the particles are different, but they as well should be more inbetween what you have shown in the last two updates...........Just thoughts.......but  work.........You are getting better all the time.............Good scene and fun to look at....................Keep going Erilaz, you are just a fine tune here and there away.............I like your ambition, big plus........

Thanks once again Virtuoso! I've tweaked a little.:wip:
RIGHT!
Tomorrow morning I will be at my home pc for the last time for this challenge. If anyone thinks anything about the scene needs changing, tweaking or completely removing, please tell me in the next 8 hours. I'm going to sleep after this post, and will only have 2 hours in the morning to do a final render.
Thanks everyone for the support you've shown me.:bounce:

Looking good. Better colours in the snow now. But dead on the snow should be whiteer, but keep that blue tones in the shadows. Do follow the suggestions about the particles Virtuoso suggested.

Thanks Mikael P.:) This seems to be the Mikael P./Virtuoso help fest!:D
I MAY get a chance to render this at work. I'll see how I go. Otherwise, keeps those comments coming in!
Update (hopefully) soon.

Well, as I guessed, that last image post is my last. If I get time over the weekend I'll composite something together from the images I've already done for a "final". I'm not near my pc again until the night of the 20th (sunday), so I can't do any more 3d work.
I'll post again on the final day to tell you what is actually going on in the sport!:D
Until then, feel free to guess what is going on! :wavey:

Okay Virtuoso... well, here goes:
It’s called THE BEE RUN
And here’s the gist:
At the top of a snowy peak, competitors are smeared with the precious honey of the Burmese Killer Bee. The hive of the killer bees is kept near. Each player is then strapped to an “Item Proximity Device”, a motion detector that EXPLODES when the item, in this case the bees, is close enough to it. The aim of the game is to get to the base of the mountain without being bitten by a bee, or exploding from the proximity device. In order to do this, each person uses a special board called a SNOW IRON. These snowboards are specially fitted with a high heat-to-fuel combuster that super-heats the bottom of the board like an iron, so that it melts the snow under the players as they ride down the slopes, thus stopping any competitor from using the same path down the mountain, and also triggering possible avalanches.
So, the horn sounds, the bees are released, and the competitors win by... well, surviving!:D
Extreme enough? I thought it was.:wavey:

:) Great to hear your description of it. I gathered something like that. But you had a few extra twists which where great.
