Hi all, this'll be my first challenge, finally one's come up when I actually have time to enter :-)

I wanted to get my thread started so this is just basic layout of the helmet/shoulder arrangement. The faceplate is huge but it encloses the whole head and neck, and will be fixed to the breastplate. I'll be modelling a human to go in there later.

As per the challenge rules I'll be keeping the sport secret right till the end, but obviously it will involve power-armor...

Maybe, take a closer look...

My avatar's an image I did years ago of a Tribes II heavy, knocked together very quickly as you can see.

Apart from both featuring helmets and shoulder plates there's not a lot of similarities, and I'm going somewhere very different with this one :-)

This looks like a promising one. Will keep an eye on this.

Here's a side view; I now have the basic forms of the helmet and chest in place, next up is the backpack and helmet interior, along with the human head...

Once the body is fully fleshed out I'll go back and work more detail into it, then texturing - and once that's done onto the next item in the scene :-)

I like the detail in the shoulder socket! Nice lighting, too.

Maybe you should make the handle on top of the helmet bigger so an opponent can grab it easier? :D

Great start, wonder what sport needs such extreme armour?
One crit, I don't see how he can turn his head, maybe that's not necessary.

Thanks guys :-)

@Pearson; I still don't know if I want the handle on the helmet to be some sort of mounting bracket or just a handle... also the opponents don't have hands ;-)

@Clanger; it's modelled on the NASA style of suit, where the helmet is fixed but the wearer can move their head around inside, it'l become clearer when I post the next WIP with the girls' head in there :-)

yeah, the full-face visor is reminiscent of fencing, or kendo. It's very nicely modelled too.

heh... this is what I get for saying I finally had time to enter a challenge - shortly after my last post I landed a big freelance gig that's eating up all my time, and now we're moving house!

I still want to finish it off, just don't hold your breath :-)
