Definately an interesting one this, ill keep checking back to see how it progresses. Like what youve done so far looks like youve got the proportions pretty much sorted.

Hey guys thanks for the comments!!
Just a small update for tonight, worked on the head a little more, still lots and lots to go :) oh and the ears are very much temporary, i dont want the shrek ear look :P
anyway,
As for the sport, its very hard to tell from now since the main equipment that would prolly give it away isnt in the drawing or the model so far, but ill give you a hint.. its already an "ultimate" sport, i just kicked it up a notch, and a half :)
comments most welcomed! keep em comin
[edit]
Added the ears and fixed a few spots, also added some more detail around the nose.

Hey guys! thanks for the comments!
I just started on the armor today and this is what i have so far
i have come to the conclusion that rigging him will be a bit of a @#!@$%! lol should be interesting! :)
I know i havent given any clues to the sport yet, i want to keep it until the very end, or at least until i have some more gear on him! but it should be a good one!

I like the straps and armour coming along. Lots of nice shading opportunities there. What is your thought about that thing going down to his chest. Is it attached to his body? Or are you going to fit it into something else?

Dude it's looking kick ass!!!!!!!!!!! I would still smooth out the nose area....but besides that: GO ON MY SON!!

09-23-2002, 02:49 PM
Thanks for the comments guys! :)
Mikael - Did you get a chance to check out the concept? its going down to a center unit which is just going to sit loose on him, much like football gear rests on the shoulders. No no no no, hes not gonna be playing football, that would be too easy! :)
Oupsssssssssss - haha ehh buddy ehh.. haha im likin the rugged look of the nose, but ill try smoothin her out a little more, see how she looks!
Im working on the other shoulder armor now, then onto the hips/legs/boots etc. Ill have a post up tonight!

The feet look a little funny to me though...maybe you should put some detail in the ankles...show the ankle bones or something...i dunno though.
Model is lookin killer!

I know, his arms are up and hes standing a little stock straight, but that creas in the back is really deep. You obviously havent mated the two halves of the model together, but dont forget, hes a big character. He's going to have a big spine back there as well.
:wavey:
yes !!! looks great ! (using lightwave ?)

keep update. :applause:

Hi guys!
thanks again for the excellent comments! :)
CactusJack: I totally agree on the feet, actually they're still being pondered as to what to do with em! i intended to put boots on him originally so im gonna decide that before i go any further with them! :)
dmcgrath: very good point about the spine, i fixed it, i think i will model in some more detail on the spinal cord, although again im not too sure if im gonna have it mostly covered with armor or not, although id like a full character underneath i thinks.. haha i like typing to myself!

well heres my update for the day!

yep, very nice indeed!
although the size of some parts could need a little change to make it even better imo.
the biggest parts I changed was the headSize and the chest/stomach area,

Thanks for the great comments guys! :)
fellah: i very much like those proportions although i think the head is a little too small there, i like it overall, and it helps bring the style out alot more!! :) very cool, i actually came up with something like that not too long ago with the symmetry function in max 5, my pivot point was off so it welded it too far to the side and it looked like that! thanks for the suggestion!
look for another update tonight guys, im goin to try and get some of that leg gear done, lol and still no clue as to what the sport is =)

This is looking very good. Will be interesting to see the rest of him covered in those kind of armour/gadgets.
...about my question earlier, yes I did look at your sketch, it was just raised out of laziness of going back and look. :) oh, well.
Maybe more leather straps going around him?

sorry it took soo long for an update, just was busy the last couple days! :) im now old enough to drink in the states! woohooo!! anyway, not too big of an update, just fixed some anatomy problems, changed some proportions, and added some more gear, hopefully will have major updates on the weekend!

Mikael: ohh plenty more straps to come, dont you worry!! :)
and the update..
fellah
09-28-2002, 07:54 AM
cool! the toes look very WIP though, a little to stretched on the Yaxis..
the knees might stick out a little to much(but maybe you'll add more muscles to the rest od the bones, in that case they will mellt in better..)
btw, what kinda clothes are you gonna give him on his noble parts in the end?
very good so far though, nize headSize now! :)
oops
here you have  now when you can legally drink it :)

That's one fine bad boy.............I mean Orc........;)
I like the oversized hands very much Jeffo...........And the overall look and feel are really coming together nicely. My one "small" crit would be as Fellah mentioned the feet.......they need to be more pliable or loose like the very nice hands you have there. But it is a work in Progress, and I know you will be on it soon enough. Looking at your overall creation I would say you have quite a nice piece of art thus far, one of the best in this challenge...............Keep up the nice work.......... :)
Jeffo
09-28-2002, 01:55 PM
hey guys
yeah the legs are still very much WIP cuz i cant decide what im going to do for armor on them.. whether im going to have knee pads, what kind of boots... argh!! make up my mind! lol
fellah: yeah i prefer the head size like this, thanks for the tips! woohooo thanks for the beer! :) and hes gotta have a nice noble jock strap
virtuoso: thanks!! =) yeah i totally agree with what you and fellah said, im going to rework the entire legs today i think and hopefully then will have my mind made up, thanks for the encouragement!!
anyway, time to get to work on him! thanks again for the comments! :) oh if you want to see a 360 spin so far...

Nice 360 spin .................yes a noble jock strap, that is quite funny.........:D
I don't think the entire legs need a total overhaul, just some tweaking. The toes should be more like the hands, flexable, looser, more together, not quite so far apart. A minor adjustment.
Overall one of the best in this challenge, keep up the nice work Jeffo..............

hey guys, heres an update so far, just worked out some more anatomy issues and added a few more accessories, still the important one to go, which might give away the sport! we'll see!
anyway here it is!

oh btw, if anyone knows max 5's advanced lighting well i have a question, im using light tracer and for some strange reason im getting this strong white outline around the feet of the character, anyone know what could be causing that??
fellah
10-08-2002, 08:41 PM
I think you should make the edges on the armor(the steal parts) sharper..
and the head just a tiny bit smaller ;)
but it's very good so far,
take care

10-08-2002, 09:06 PM
Looking very nice Jeffo..................In fact I think the head should be made larger, just the opposite of what Fellah thinks, I like the exxagerated look of things,a head on that beast should be over emphasized I think.
I think the toes should still be narrowed or lowered down in the Y axis, they seem a bit too high. The shoulder pads are top notch,I love them. All in all a very nice creation Jeffo.........
MikaelPersson
10-09-2002, 11:18 PM
looking sweet!
really like that model around his lower leg. Maybe you should tone down his feet slightly. They look a bit on the large side now. But not to much though.
Would love to see some animation of that character.
Jeffo
10-11-2002, 01:42 AM
Hi guys!! thanks for the great comments!
Fellah: hehe the head even smaller?! good god man, he's going to look like the guy from beetlejuice (if you've seen that movie) :) i am going to make some of the armor sharper, and maybe add some more rivets. Im also going to rework some parts of the anatomy and finally fix the toes!
Virtuoso: lol haha will you two make up your mind about the head!! :P what i am going to do i think is make the head a little higher up and give him more of a neck, then we'll have to see how it looks, the toes are getting fixed as i type! :) thank ye sir!
Mikael: Thanks very much!! i am going to work on the feet some more! :) oh and he will be animating, if i can ever rig this SOB :)
ARGH!! oct 19 rapidly approaching! going to have to put her in high gear now.

10-19-2002, 10:00 AM
Ok so do we have til midnight tonight now or is it over? if til tonight i still have a chance to rig and pose this guy! if not, well heres the final model version! :) i made quite a few anatomy as well as accessory changes, comments are always welcomed, be as harsh as you wish!
oh i also have to model the projectile still
anyway, heres what i got so far!
could someone please clarify that about the deadline?
thanks!

Hey Jeffo,
Its a great model and all, but I'm going to tear it to shreds. Cause I know you'd rather have the constructive criticism. :D
For starters, it might have been better if you made his pose a little more expressive.
It would have nice to see the gun (and hand) closer to the camera, and his left arm (and shoulder) dropped far back into the distance. His foot placing could also be more spaced out, so it would look like he had to use maximum surface area (balance?) to counter the shot. You could have also brought the right foot in front of the left, and rotate his left foot back 60-90 degrees (Like a T).
For the camera, you could have used a wider angle lens (fisheye perspective or whatever you call it), creating more depth to the shot.
Also, I'm not sure if it was intended, but the loincloth hanging down appears to be skinned to heavily to his legs. Theres some nasty stretching going on.
Oh yah, and his pinky finger is clipping through the gun, as is the cloth/armor at his ankles clipping through his foot....slightly. :shame: j/k!
All in all you did an amazing job jeffo. I absolutely love the blade design. Didn't expect to see that one coming.
Great job dude!
