Hello all!
I guess you've heard it all before: Been lurking here for blabla, never got a chance to participate bla bla... Now finally (more bla bla..) and so on.. Well, this month I couldn't come up with a good excuse to not get in on the fun. So here I am, ready and hopefully able to dedicate this challenge some time. :)
Here's a quick sketch (didn't want to over do it since I'm eager to get on with modelling.)

well it looks like you got a good start bla, bla...
hope you dont run into any problems with the modeling bla,bla...
good luck and all that bla bla..
:D
Sorry for all that bla bla... :D
It's getting late (will at least get a couple of hours worth of sleep until work..) brain all mushy and weird now.
Did a reference sketch in 3d so that I won't make a bodysuit a normal human can't fit in. Easier to stay on the right track while modelling.

Hmmm.... Fat suit boxing?
Whatever it is, it looks interesting.

I thought all the bla bla stuff was funny as hell, I felt I had to continue on in that line of thinking.
SUMO FOR POOR SKINNY PEOPLE???

I was thinking something along the lines of sportscar jumping..
Aaah.. One of you is actually pretty close to what I had in mind :) . To do the sport I'm thinking of you'd have to be pretty dumb or have a sky high life insurance he he..
I hope to have something to post later today (still at work...).

Can't make out what's in his right hand, is this crucial to the sport?

Is he alone, or does he play with others? Is he supposed to hit his fellow contenders with that ball and bat? Or annoy some very big dog?

its obvious that suit is for some sort of bouncing / damage absorber. My guess its some downhill rolling.just my .02$ here :bounce:

I know, that's a brand new sport called "get-away-from-the-darn-dog"! At least, in that version, you have an armor... :D

no witty comments at this time...hehe
Keep on guessing ya'll! :) (this is fun!)
Clanger: The thing he's holding is suppose to be a helmet.. :D Never been all that good with the pen I guess.. :arteest:
Mikael P: He's alone while performing the actual event but compete against others by score.
Anyhoo.. I've been modelling on his head, far from finished but it's progress so I'll post it. Tons to fix, even though I was going for a non-real head the proportions came out all wrong. I could use a few pointers at this stage. I want him to look tough (as if he could take a few beatings) and somewhat dumb.
Now tired, need sleep.

Looks like a fun game.. hehee anything with massive amounts of padding and a helmet spells fun in my book. :bounce:
I think the nose of your head is on the right track, looks like its had a few breaks in its time.
I have a suggestion on the dumb look, maybe big bottom lip, mouth hanging open and, maybe a bigger chin? Hope those ideas help.
Keep it up! :applause:

This will be another interesting sport to figure out. I like the jaguar theory... ;)
Good job making that head model in such quick time! We'll see how long it takes me to do something like this when I enter the contest... :hmm:
By the way, I had no problem at all identifying that thing in the first sketch as a helmet. What else could people think it was?
I'll definitely keep track of this. Good job so far!
I tend to neglect my real work for this challenge. I will probably slow it down until the weekend arrives.. But it's fun!!! :bounce:
HellRender: Thanks man!
scribble: Thanks for the pointers, I've done some modifying, pulling, cutting and slicing but it's hard to get to that dumb look I was after.
Agent D : He he, I like the jaguar idea too but it's pretty far from the sport I've made up.
This evenings tweaking: I've started on the textures, there's just a color map for now to test colors and values. I want to get that right before I start on the bump and spec. The geometry is getting closer and hopefully looks a little cleaner now. There's still some issues to sort out. I'll probably leave the head for a while and start on the body.
test render below :)

Tennis with meteorites?
Man, that guy looks like he's been wacked in the head a few too many times.... :surprised
Hehehehe, I hope that's how he's meant to look and that this is not perceived as a nasty comment... (Which it's not)....
Looking very cool so far!! Lets see some beads of sweat forming on his face though - I'm sure he must be cooking in that suit!
BTW I really love your avatar, and also - WELCOME TO THE FORUM, AND THE CHALLENGE!
Best of luck :D
Thanks Leigh! :) I really feel welcome. I've been lurking here a lot lately and work has kept me from doing any personal stuff. I love all the nice, friendly and talanted people of this forum and I finally have some time to be creative when I'm off duty :bounce:
I couldn't keep myself from making him some bump and spec maps. Still needs tweaking here and there, the chin is all wrong and some other issues here and there.. I'll be making some facial expressions once I know how the final image will be composed. This time I promise I won't touch the head until I have some of the body suit to show...
He now has a sweater too :airguitar

so fast!!!
how can you model such a quality head in so little time!!
:applause: :applause: :applause:
very nice
keep it up
last render looks the goods
There's so many joining in on this challenge, it'll be fun to see everyones progress on this super cool topic :bounce: !!
mrmark: Thanks! :) I don't know about quality though, it's pretty quick and dirty. I roughed the form with splines using a side and front head drawing by Loomis. Then I just splitted, added and pulled the polygons around.

Very sweeeet! :applause:
CactusJack: Thanks man, I will probably redo the textures when I know how I will light the final scene. I will also try to experiment with some hair..
Small update below. I have spent some hours modelling the suit. Next will be to add some creases...
(soon weekend, sweet joy, hopefully I will have a bigger update by Sunday...)

I'll be looking forward to Sundays update.

that's insane! you are a speedy gonzales kind of modelling guy! but really good, too!
Hehe, nice! I don't know if you did but I'd roughly model the body inside the bubbledress to get the proportions right.
At the moment if you took the clothes off I think the arms and torso would be too long.
Wiro
drunkenmaster20: Thanks mate! I hope to be done with the suit by then..
derwolpertinger: Thanks for the kind words!! :) As long as I'm having fun and know where I'm going with the model I'm able to sit continuously (is that how you say it?) for a few hours and get lots done. And I must add the fact that I've lost quite a few hours of sleep the past days... ;)
Wiro: You are correct, the proportions are a bit off now. It's easy to tweak though so I'll look into that when I continue modelling. Thanks for the pointer :)

Good speed modeling man!!!
Fantastic!
Are you gonna make two entries for the contest??;)

First like to say that is a great concept and that you are so damn fast modeling this guy! Thats really cool!
I like to guess: Airbag bungee? No rope just bouncing with this overall?
P..:
He he..
tuba3d: Thanks! :) No, but I will put as much time on this one as possible, I'm having super fun!!! :bounce:
prayas: I'm not fast, just dedicating this challenge most of my free time (and loosing some sleep also...) He he, you're pretty close with your guess, try to turn it around and you'll be closer :)
I know I was going to continue modelling on the suit but found other parts to model so:
I went'n made me self a lil shoe :)
Just procedural textures for now...
More coming tomorrow, stay tuned...

.... that shoe is awesome and even with just procedurals
it's definitly got soul (sole ) too .... sorry, that was pretty bad
A lilŽupdate below... I've been modelling on stuff that will give the sport away so there's only a update on the character for now. Still lots to do on him...
Satyricon: Thanks man, I've been following your thread too, nice cartoony thing going on there =), looking forward to seeing more.
Mikael P.: The glow is just a thing I like to put on in photoshop while adjusting the values on the render.
Mangled Poly: Don't know how to respond to that :) .. Thanks I guess, but I've seen sooo much better pieces in the challenges before. But I hope to be able to put in the time to improve on this one...
monotypic: I can never tell if a render looks good or not, I tend to stare myself blind after a few test renders. I'm glad it came out ok even though it was just a shoe :)
otacon: thanks man. I love lighting and surfacing. It often feels as if the modelling part is a long, boring and tedious task just to get to the good stuff...
gwelty: Ha ha!! You really nailed that one :)
see you guys!

Yes, I understood that it was a post process thing. But it looked nice anyway ;).
I am not sure about those knees. I think the fold is too sharp there. Or rather not fold, but the thing protruding out from the knee. ShouldnŽt they look more bulgy as the rest of his suit?
Sorry if it sounds vague, but it is something with the suit that doesnŽt look right there.
Otherwise, great work.

now that i look at it compared to his hadns and shoes his neck looks really big... maybe make the base a bit smaller so he looks smaller and suit looks bigger
