Could someone explain what I may want to do in my current situation? Here's my biped and the enveloping issues I'm having:

The thigh verts are jutting up like a wall, and the pelvis envelope cannot seem to control it. The influence is large on the thigh. I've tried reducing it but the thigh verts become uninflluenced by no bones at all. Any suggestion is welcome; I am a novice at the rigging thing.

I posted this in the discreet 3ds Max forum as well so perhaps we'll just use that thread? Suggestions are still welcome --- I'll check back frequently.

If all else fails you can type in weights with the weight table, u have to lock the verts first. The CS help should go over all that. Only other sugestions are with the blending, (make sure a bunch of other bones arnt affecting the same area if they shouldent be. Pelvis is a frustrationg aria. Also check to see if they are rigid or not, they shouldent be.

Hope this helps!

Looks to me as the envelopes arent catching all the verts they need, or bone placement is slightly off, I always skin using vertices and never the envelopes as i wanna be precise. The way you skin with this is turn on "vertices" in the select group. Then select the pelvis bone, and select the verts between the leg and pelvis, weight it all to 1. Then holding down CTRL, select the leg you want and gradually increase the weighting.

The envelope system wont cover every situation, you still have to go in manually and tweak.
