Hi !
We are transistionning from Lightwave to XSI. Does anyone know how to archieve in XSI a "clip map" ala lightwave ?
A better explanation : a clip map is a 2 bit image ( black or white ) who act like a transparency map, but in addition act as a "cut" object feature, in result for example, ray don't hit the surface of the polygon who is "cutted" we can make like that a tree with leaves (mapped and clipped mapped) who cast shadows with a shadow map.

Thanks in advance and sorry for my crappy english...

I'm still a newbie myself, but I believe you use the Sprite node in the render tree to accomplish this.

Yep, just use the SPRITE node under the Raytracing menu in the rendertree.

Just out of curiosity, where do you plug this sprite node?

plug material into sprite's input, plug b/w image into sprite's matte. Turn on matte in Sptite's ppg. Get sprite with node>raytracing>sprite.

Hope this helps,

rob

p.s. to NNois, also have a look at the mixer nodes. You can do lots of stuff with b/w images etc. too.
