I have a great opportunity with a leading interactive video game developer located in Southern California. Numerous award-winning titles for PC and video game consoles have come out of this thriving studio. Founded in 1993, this developer has created games for PS2, Xbox, Gamecube and PC. Their games have premiered at No 1, with some of their games having sold more than 4 million copies worldwide. They offer excellent salaries, bonuses, full benefits as well as relocation assistance when needed.


SPECIAL EFFECTS ARTIST / SENIOR PARTICLE

The Special Effects / Particle Artist oversees the design and creation of realtime 2D and 3D effects for the current videogame project.


Duties & Responsibilities:

• Utilizing both commercial and proprietary software tools, oversee the creation of visually stunning 2D and 3D effects in a realtime, multiplatform game development environment.

• Effects include rigid/soft body dynamics, particles and shaders to simulate effects of explosions, smoke, fire, steam, fog, etc.

• Design and create in-game and pre-rendered special effects and post production work.

• Collaborate with art leads and design team on overall design, production workflow and task priorities; collaborate with programming team on game engine capabilities and limitations to achieve highest quality effects.

• Develop schedules and time estimates for tasks, and provide plan for implementation.

• Perform research to acquire new knowledge necessary to perform assigned tasks.

Qualifications:

• Three to Six year’s professional experience in videogame development, with at least two years focus on particle and special effects work for shipped videogame titles.

• Creative and innovative multiplatform game development experience, with demonstrated ability to ship quality titles under demanding game development schedules.

• Expert-level skills in 3D graphics, particle systems, dynamics, shaders and relevant commercial software applications.

• All-around experience with computer game technologies.

• Ability to quickly master proprietary tools and development processes.

• Strong passion for creating immersive, high quality videogames.

• Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal communication skills.

• Capable of working both as a member of a team, and individually with minimum supervision.

Desired Qualifications:

• BFA or equivalent from an accredited art/design school or equivalent training, course work and/or practical experience
