OPM response are a specialist recruitment consultancy in the video games industry based in the UK. We have been asked by one of our UK clients to help source several highly talented world builders to work full time and inhouse (please do not apply if you can only work remotely). My client are currently going through a massive staff expansion and urgently need experienced artists on board to help develop their sure fire hit AAA racing title.

They are looking for talented individuals who have a keen interest in building new and innovative worlds. If you've got a passion for set design and great attention to detail than they would like to hear from you. Working on this team means having a keen understanding of game play and its significant role in world building. Not only are my client looking for great artists but they are looking for game players as well. When it comes to modeling skills, they are looking for someone capable of creating more than just low poly non organic models.
A portfolio demonstrating the following is required:
- A portfolio that demonstrates ability to think in 3D
- Drawings/sketches to judge your basic skills as well as any modeling and texture work related to objects, buildings, natural terrain, etc
- Excellent sense of form, weight (mass), and volume
- Good use of light and shadow
- Breadth of artistic styles
- Demonstrates an understanding of optimization
- Excellent sense of scale and level of finish
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a similar role within the games industry is essential.
- Post secondary diploma in 3D Animation or equivalent
- Proficient experience with 3D Software such as Maya, (preferred) XSi or 3D Studio Max
- Experience in traditional/practical model making or practical film effects is a plus
Demonstrates ability to:
- Create high quality, non-organic models in low, medium and high polygon counts
- Work in an organized and timely fashion
- Construct game levels/worlds with moderate direction that flow and pace well
- Remain focused, motivated and effective on all tasks through completion
- Learn and grow professionally.
Demonstrates a good understanding of:
- Light, Form, Scale, Layout
- Fundamentals of visual language
- A good understanding of pace and storytelling
Responsibilities:
- Construct physical form studies or physical models as necessary
- Use 3D CG packages to build static models for secondary assets for a game
- Create low-mid poly models consistently in a clean and organized fashion
- Build models from concept drawings and/or photographs that are efficient, to correct scale, and within dictated budgets
- Build simple textures; apply textures to models; provide feedback to texture artists as necessary
- Apply basic lighting of models and apply lighting characteristics for export
- Complete turntable renderings of models as necessary
- Working from drawings/direction/layout efficiently build a simple to intermediate game level with respect to art direction, game design, scale and budget.
Salary to £35,000 +bens
Location: UK - South East
Start Date: Immediate
