A good UPS has mainly two functions.
First to keep your system from going down on power outages and brownouts
Second to protect it from powersurges
You will either need it if you are in an area where such things tend to happen or if you have to make sure that no matter what the system is online (important server)
Personaly i used mostly systems from APC. You should be aware that you get what you pay for and most cheap systems that i know (even those from known brands) tend to not be worth the money.
Hope this helps

I'd suggest that you get one any way. You don't need a really big or expensive one, but I still think you should get one.

A UPS is better than a surge suppressor but you should at least get a surge suppressor. Although tit might be rare a voltage spike from say your house being hit by lightening can fry your computer even if it is not turned on.

Please describe your computer in detail.. I would guess that the "Dynamode 850 VA" woudl be suffecient and allow some expansion.

Yeah get the 850 or a 1000VA UPS to be safe.
