I'm new to modelling, doing my first model ever actually. I'm doing an Xwing, and it has some very tiny little details on it. Well, when I'm working on it (Maya PLE), the lighting Maya provides blinds out all these objects constantly, making me change camera angle for awhile just to actually see them. What can I do?

hm, use more lights so you have more shadows and you can see your details better

GI would also help

edit it in wireframe mode... or add a light in the editor and turn on use all lights... i'm sorry i did get this right didn't i? that you're having trouble in the editor, not in the final render?

Yes in the editor not the final render. Thanks I will try those things. What is GI?

GI = Global Illumination, it's a form of cheating radiosity (which is where light bounces off of surfaces and you get a really nice "realistic" render, though personally i find most radiosity renders look like tiny plastic models of the objects... like photos of matchbox cars!)

Its not cheating. Its just using the computer to make life easier.
But it is over used none the less.

Thanks for the help. I added a light source near the area I couldn't see (cause it was too shiny), and that definately helped. I tried to add another light source (both ambient) to another area needing help, but it just blinded me (too bright). So I'm sticking with the one, and moving it around. Thanks!
