hi all,

I just started messing around with my lightscape, and i keep gettin the same problem, over and over again. When i model something, lets say a box, I place a light, i do all that, when i process everything, import the scene back into MAX, i notice the shadows are all jagged.
I also have a problem with materials...

If anyone can direct me to a good** tutorial on lightscape, or care to explain some of the basics of this strange program, I would be very thankful!!!

thanks in advance,

Igor

Igor,

You don't want to import the shadows into max. Recast them with the same light in max using a raytrace or shadow mapped shadow.

Best thing to do is upgrade to Max 5, if you can. This is alll built in and works much better than lightscape.

Thanks Erick,

Upgrading may be bit too pricey for me, but i kinda figured out a problem i was having before, so for now i'm a happy cg-er...
Thanks anyways:beer:

Hi,

There is some good info about the procedure here:

http://www.discreet.com/support/lightscape/faq/answer.php3?prod=lightscape&id=511

You basically don't want to store direct illumination in Lightscape (this gives you the harsh shadows)

By calculating only the indirect lighting you get only what is "missing" from MAX and they you simply raytrace your direct lighting and shadows in MAX...

Hope this helps

Max5 does simplify everything, eliminates all the import export and adds a lot more features... like exposure control...
