Hey everyone,

I'm having a problem with maya on my computer. It is friggin' slow!!! Even moving around in the view port is slow! I don't understand why.... I don't even have any other program running. The only thing I can think it would be is my video card might not be good enough.

I have 768 MB of RAM and dual 800 pIII processors. It shouldn't be slow! My video card is from Matrox and it is a 32 Meg card. I don't want to spend 200 bucks on a 128 Meg video card unless I know it's definetley the problem.

Any one know the problem please tell me.

try updating your video drivers (and opengl drivers)... a 128 will seriously improve performance over a 32 on any system.... if you don't want to shell out the try lowering your screen resolution... if it still runs badly then it's most likely your expectations of maya on your machine. maya is a cpu hog.

It's definietely your Matrox that's causing it. Matrox cards are known for their slow OpenGL speed (Well, Parhelia is better), which is basically what the Maya GUI is all about...

thanks guys.... now I definately know it's my video card. As soon as I have enough money I'll get a geforce4.

if you use a matrox card and even your viewport is slow without objects it might be, that the 3d acceleration is not switched on.
check in the display settings for a button called "enable 3D" or something like that.
that should help a LOT :)
