Hello there

Wireframe display in the way i like use it in max 4 sucks badly with all Geforce cards i 've tried so far ;from the 2 to 4.
It' s slow as hell on a 20000 poly model with invisible edges diplayed as doted lines (cpu is a 2000+ athlon).
Anybody knows how to use this kind of display with a decent-workable frame rate ?
Perhaps a quadro4 ?Or special drivers ?

Anyone has already experienced this problem and find a solution?
Again invisible edge as doted lines is a must for me.

Thanks in advance for your help.
eF.

imo it's not the gfx card...it's max

with my current project(145k polys) i get like 1fps in 3dsmax viewports(p4 1.6@2.4 / gf ti4400)

i imported that model to xsi 2.0.1 for a little testing... i got 85fps(vertical sync limit) - that should explain it pretty well, this is all because of good opengl optimization, and max has none of it

go figure, i bet maya also has performance of another dimension compared to max - discreet just needs to pump out a complete rewrite real quick for that and other reasons, they had better skipped 3dsmax5 imo

(btw i still use max because of the awesome poly modeling :D)

Sorry Fist, but it is the card. Slow-ass wireframe rendering is a weakness recognised even by nVidia, despite their cards otherwise kicking arse, and one of the main things they're working on for their next generation of graphics cards. If peeps want a good card for wireframe I'd recommend waitring for the Radeon 9700 Pro... although I wouldn't place any bets on the stability of the drivers for the first six months.

If you're strictly going for wireframe speed, I'd suggest an Nvidia board running DirectX. From my experience, DirectX wireframe is lightning fast on Nvidia boards. Shaded DirectX and OpenGL is a different story.
