View Full Version : Mirroring with SubD's

Granted this sounds like a remedial question but the answer has totaly eluded me.
This is a generic layout. I create a subD cube, place it in polygone proxy mode, delete the faces on the x=0, yz side, mirror the object along the x axis. This now gives me a duplicate cube which I want to mimick changes to when I work on the right side. So now I go into the connection editor to connect the outputs of my working object to the inputs of my mirrored object. The question is what do I connect to what. If I use normal polygons and create a simulate sudD enviroment I simply connect the outMesh to the inMesh. Not an option with subD's.

go for cps it has a lot of nice features and is much faster at the end of modeling go for subd and go deep in detail

When you duplicate the obj, open the options box and select instance, so it will mirror your commands from the +X side you are working on.

Rain what the heck is that??? Diden't you hear Colorado is replacing Arizona as the US's desert state. Actually it looks like I may get a little rain in an hour or so (fingers crossed!!!)

wgeddes, do you know about the Alias/Wavefront group meetings held in
Boulder every couple of months and/or about the Denver/Boulder Siggraph chapter which has recently been re-activated? If not let me know and I'll Email you some info. Its good stuff:buttrock:

Yup this works, but how do I mirror an instance? I tried a few times and failed... (excuse me, transitioning from max ;)) but in Max all you have to do is mirror and instance on the X-axis and bam! end of story, it's a bit different in Maya

any help? I feel like such a noob :p

before you mirror move the pivot point to the mirror plane (by hitting insert)
