could u post a lower res image, either my comp is acting up and its loading very slow,or the image is huge.

edit: ur using one colour, thats ur problem,u took a pink and are just darkening it and lightening it to fit,u need to study colour theory, and how light hits the face, never use white as a highlight, especially the hair.

hope that helped.

ok sry for that.. posted 50% smaller...

accually i havent used burn- or dodgetool... maybe i just suck on choosing colors :/

searched google for "colour theory", found some stuff about the colorwheel... was that what you ment? " http://www.colormatters.com/colortheory.html "

is there a quicker way to paint hair?.. with this hair ive grabbed a 1pix brush and streaked it out... tried to make my own brush of alot of dots but when i used it, it dotted out instead of smooth lines...

dont be afraid to get your hands dirty with some colors like noob said...try to block out the hair first with a darker base color...next work with a smaller brush to block out highlights and shadows...then switch up some colors a bit ...if there is yellow light bouncing off the hair then it will reflect a greenish coloradd some different hues and saturations to get the desired effect..i would then pixle or smudge down some stray hairs....heres sortof a quick example of two different styles
hope it helps...

dont know if i got my hands dirty enough... but i made a quick test..

i actually think that this purple color fits her better than the blue

dont know if i have put the shadows and highlights on the right places but its supposed to be a light above and a bit behind

what is wrong .. exept that its not very highres... "painted with a bit bigger brush"

ok..well u have the technique down, but the lighting is off.ur light source *i'm guessin from the face*is coming from the left...so infact there would not be a shadow on the front of that quiff thing u got goin there.*the one where the eyebrow overlaps it* other areas have the same problem.

also jwilson was showing u an example,u don't have to use a thick brush,i guess it depends on the style and realism ur goin for.

keep it up,ur getting there.

guassian blur?? no no,don't use filters for now.

use the smudge tool to blend colours.

as for the colours on the face..the seem off,why is there a shadow under her left eye,and left side of her chin, the lightsource is hitting her straight on right??? there no need for em shadows.

This is a very nice picture that’s coming along great.

Here are a few things I noticed.

All those short strokes used to fill in the hair… Cut that out! Using short strokes like this makes it look like fur… Judging form you original sketch that was not the intended effect. Instead, try using long fluid strokes that fall all the way to the end of the mane. Note: don’t stop your stroke at the ear…go around it and continue on down.
Another thing about the hair… after you are done with step one, if you still have those little pointy ends along the line of the cheekbone… Cut that out! Two maybe three looks good more makes the hair look scruffy… like split-ends.
The nose is too flat… angle it away from the face a bit more…
The lips need a little work… don’t be afraid to use a reference… google it.
Move the ear down a bit … its on her temple… cut and paste… put the hair on the different layer… that would make it easier on you.
Round off the chin … too pointy…also the face looks a little flat… the outline of the cheek need a little more curve… or something.
Dude this will be great.

Dude, you need to lose some of that nose definition. If the light is coming from the right side there is no reason to have such a serious shadow on the illuminated side. I would recommend softening the nose definition and getting rid of this (http://img132.exs.cx/img132/6774/newface8et.jpg) shading all together. Also, Dwarves have round noses, elves have pretty pointy ones.
I don't mean to be rude or pretentious, but I struggled with noses ( and I certainly don't claim to have mastered them) for a long time and came to the conclusion that the prettier the character, the less nose definition there is. Of course, if you don't want her to be pretty ignore this post altogether.

In my opinion, the removal of the aforementioned shading, your picture will look exponentially better. The picture's only as good as the worst part of it right? I think that part is really holding the pic back.

Good job:applause:

it just keep getting better and better... but its still something funny about her...i think its to much space between her nose and mouth?.. and what do you think about the new nose and mouth by the way?

if u cover the top half of that image it look excellent, where as the bottom half is off,the space between her nose and mouth is too much, make it a lil shorter,i wud do a paint over, but when people give paint overs, the artist tends to just copy the paint over and learn nothing, try and do it ureself.

also from the looks of it her eye seem to big.

keep at it,its improving allot.

ok ok some improvements..

ive moved down the nos just a bit to shorten the space between nose and mouth.
ive rotated and moved the mouth slightly because i thought it was out of place.
looked on other painted pictures, and retoutched mouth.
changed the eye.
started on the ear.
should i change her forehead? (or what its called in eng, the big flat thingy above the eyes)
should'nt it be lighten a bit? suggestions
