View Full Version : Dynamics - why won't my boxes bounce back?
Alchemist3D 01-11-2005, 08:06 PM My "sphere" smashes into some boxes and sends them flying. I want them to bounce back into place. However, with my current setup, they only scatter. What am I missing?

can you just reverse everything once it's at the farthest point? lol it's not dynamics but it's a good fake I guess.

I thought of that, too, but I want the oscillations.

Have you got a file with the problem?

The roof needs a RBD-Tag (with mass 0) and no constraint-tag. And the stiffness seems to be much to hight with 500.
Additionaly to what Olle said you have to enable Lock->Above, otherwise no force will be applied by the springs. The stiffness of 500 is extreme. Use someting in the range of 0.1.
Also don't expect your cubes to nearly get in the same configuration as they were befor the sphere hit them, they will be around the center of the roof at every possible angle.
Hope this helps

Is it me or is dynamics not as hot as it sounds? I made this setup to mimic a membrane which was pierced by the sphere and then (hopefully) spring back into place. I reconfigured it based on your comments/suggestions:

I added the springs between the blue boxes to pull them back into formation with no luck:

I suppose I need some Xpresso or c.o.f.f.e.e. to get my desired effect with Dynamics.

You connected the springs to the center of the cubes. This way it is impossible for the springs to pull them back into their original alignment. Better increase the subdivison of the cubes by one and use the center of the sides to connect the cubes.

Thanks, Srek. That helped a lot. I even added a "few" more springs to help get closer to the original shape (doesn't have to be exact).

Glad to see it worked out for you :)
