Hi, I've been a little shy about posting my work here seeing the incredible work you guys do but here it is anyway (keep in mind im still learning. i have much to learn im only 14http://cgtalk.com/images/smilies/surprised.gif ) purchased Lightwave 3d a few weeks back under an educational license and this is my first major project. I did use Blender before lightwave so im not new to the 3d scene altogether. My very first serious model in Lightwave. So with out further ado may i present Project Neck Break:

basic render to show anatomy:

Render to show the ominous signature goggles:

and a render of a basic pistol (not too detail because there will be no detailed shots of it)

C&C appreciate

Hey man... not a bad start. I would say it would be worth the extra effort to put more detail into the characters anatomy. Put more shape into the thighs, knees, and calves... As well as the arms. Show a picture of the wireframe so we can get a better idea of whats going on.

3dtotal.com has a tutorial in the "free stuff" section called Joan of Arc. It breaks modeling the body, head, arms, everything into a step by step tutorial. It really helped me out when i was first starting out. Though you will have to adjust the steps for a male anatomy, but it might help you out.

Keep it up man, dont ever be afraid to post up any stuff (everyone started somewhere). Any Crits or Comments are only going to help you get better.

Heh, cool stuff !

Yeah, I'm a SC freak too. The latest Chaos Theory screenshots look awesome.
I would recommend tutorials like Joan of Arc as well, although I find that one to
have somewhat cartoony and thin anatomy.

A splinter cell definately needs stronger, athletic legs.

Thanks guys. I box modeled this whole thing. now im gonna go back and subdivide the arms and legs a little more and define the muscles.

Hey head cheese,

you are inspired by Splinter Cell too? For a first time, you are off to a great start. My model is still being tweaked to my liking. I would really love to see a wireframe to see where we can help you.

Never give up...you are doing great...

here is very general view of a wire frame. if there are any portions of the model you wanna see just tell me and ill render a close up.

Render times weren't bad either considering the amount of polys. The hands were modeled in Blender a while back and i exported them and bridged them to the arm. altogether there are 5,142 polys. any way here's the wire

and any problems you can see in the wires? i really need feedback. i hope that this project will come out good.

Hey, Head cheese.

That is a nice render. Now it is time for me to tell you this: Since you have a figure made and gotten a feel for the renderer, and the modeling tools, you will need to use human reference to create figures.

Some good reference material is the Joan of Arc tutorial, which is an extremely good start for anyone looking to model humans. It is stylised, but you can model any human. It also does tell you about making a complete figure...

And from personal experience, never made you model hi res until your details are ironed out...

I cant give you a direct link to the tutorial b/c of how the site is set up... but go to 3dtotal.com. There is a "free stuff" tab in the title bar on the main page. Select tutorial and scroll down about halfway untill you see it.
