Is there any difference between these two types of connection? Im getting a viewsonic vp171b, and it uses a DVI-D connection. If I use this with a quadro fx 1100, which uses a DVI-I connection, will it work? Thanks

Yes it will. DVI-I includes analog signals as well as digital, but DVI-D only uses the digital signals. DVI-A with analog only signals is very uncommon.
