are u using sketches or any blueprints for this ?
if so i would love to see one of them
as far as i can see, the model looks clean
post a unsmoothed wire if u can thus i can comment better
xtrm3d

nope .. no sketches or blueprints ..
just modelling ''on the flow''
folowing my inspiration.. would post some other wire this evening ..
in the mean time ..
here a small test to see how the shader/post behave in movement http://www.xtrm3d.com/temp/looktest.gif

Very good work overall. I particularly like the helmet (you are a master in this field) the googles and obviously the set of expressions.
Probably one of my favorite character from you since Jack Napalm and the Rabbit with the big penis :D
BTW... whatever you have in hands LW, Maya, Modo, Max, XSI, you do great things... Keep on "amusing" us with your very heteroclit characters.

Holy crap that's awesome.
I don't know whats better. Your awesome character design, the technical aspects of the model. Or the awesome shading and render work.
Will we get a tutorial on this one? :P

it´s coming around nicely. this is going to be fabulous. although i think he could look better with bigger teeth. kind of like Mickey Rooney as Mr. Yunioshi in Breakfast at Tiffany´s, but then again he would look a lot less menacing. could be funny though.

01-13-2005, 03:15 PM
hehe i see i see..
but i wantto avoid these kind of karikatural cliche ..
want to keep the ''heroic'' aspect of him...
hope to find some time this weekend.. to restart the body

nice jacket... very nice expression on the third pic :D
Christophe, I notice that, similar to your current avatar, the neutral pose of your characters' eyes is a bit.... hmmmm..... special :D Do you feel more comfortable when you model crazy people ? :D
keep us updated

Looking really good, he has some kind of childish feel to him wich adds to the style. His shoulders look very round, u might want to slightly square them up, it will add the feel that there is a bone structure under the jacket, but then again it's all about preference. Keep it up
I would say HOLY CRAP, but this is just normall stuff for you man...
AWESOME!! Cant wait to see mroe on this, thanks!!!

My hat is off to you my friend! This is excellent modeling, and to think you did it in modo... man you learn fast! This is by far the best char. i've seen from you yet (my opinion). Great attention to detail. I will subscribe to this thread for sure! :bounce:

Looking forward  :applause:

Wow man! That looks bloody awesome! How on earth did you get that oil-painterly look? I LOVE IT! :D Please tell us your secret! ;)
In some of the pics, he looks well freaky, by the way.
And it reminds me that I should make a proper pilot for my models one day...

hi skyraider3d
just a shader with some gradient , heavy use of procedural . and a little bit of post ..
concerning is freakiness
yeahh .. i mean , if you are going to drop your plane toward an enemy . you should better give them you meanest face ..
dogbite
02-14-2005, 04:14 PM
any chance youd post the surface preset to this effect.
Skyraider3D
02-17-2005, 04:57 PM
I wouldn't mind a bit more in-depth description either, as I am still unsure how to reproduce this myself  How does this gradient work for example? Do you mean a falloff of some sort?
Very very good. Looking forward for the machine!

02-20-2005, 06:41 AM
no problem , i would give more in depht information about the shader , when i would be done with this project ..

A pilot in a tank?!
I do wonder why a kamikaze would use an armoured vehicle... he's cheating! :p
Nice modelling, though! :)
xtrm3d
02-27-2005, 03:31 PM
''he's cheating''
hehhehe he is one of the first really smart kamikaze:twisted:
Skyraider3D
02-27-2005, 04:30 PM
Hmmm I wouldn't say that! ;)
The concept of kamikaze, strange as it may seem to most of us, is actually quite clever and efficient. Kamikaze attacks achieved greater success than conventional attacks, which had to be repeated time and time again. Losses from conventional attacks were heavy, and one could argue that the dedicated sacrifice of a few determined individuals outweighs repetitive dangerous conventional attacks in terms of both losses and successes.
But I am getting way too serious now! :D Let's see some more of that armoured thingy!

hi skyraider3d
nothing bad about being seriouse about such an higly interesting subject ..
knowing your passion for the ''aeronautique '' , i am pretty sure that you have a strong knowledge about the time periode ..
.. having studied the japanese culture and history myself for at least 2 year ,
and even if it could sound weird for some people .. i totally respect the sacrifice and ideal of honnor that these men did have
anyway ..
i mean , this one his REALLY smart .. ( in difference to the other who where only smart )
xtrm3d
05-26-2005, 03:07 AM
was feeling going back on the modelling aspect of this charachter ...
reworked the face ... and would rework the headgear next ..
then later eventually some zbrushing ....
kind of never ending project ..but somehow i am getting inspiration to finish it ....someday :-)

Skyraider3D
06-22-2005, 10:24 PM
Now we're talking! :D
Looks good, though the canopy is a bit wobbly and doesn't fit too well.
Engines would look better if you can blend them in with the wing, maybe. A bit like this...

concerning the jet engine.. i wanted them to be a separate pieces.. like a kind of custone job

really cool stuff specially the 3rd image from this link http://www.xtrm3d.com/temp/tnaka+zero.jpg
he stands in a realy hero-like pose, with the feeling "Let's kick some more enemy ass today".
reminds me of Cid Highwind...
JoeGonzalez
06-23-2005, 01:36 AM
Ooh, I love that airplane design. Very nice :)
Underneath the wings I'm reminded of the Me-262 and some of the Arado jets... Keep going with the aircraft design, it really fits your character. Much more so than the tank :)
xtrm3d
06-25-2005, 04:26 AM
dcided today to redesign the plane .. going for a mini monoplace jet prototype ... mix between a zero and a messerschmidt komet ...
he stands in a realy hero-like pose, with the feeling "Let's kick some more enemy ass today".
hehehhe funny that you say that .. cuase right now he dont have a rig .. just the arm brought down to render
thanck :-)
@skyraider ..

06-27-2005, 08:14 AM
Looks nice, but two quick comments... :)
* what are the holes in the cowling for?
* the airscoop under the fuselage doesn't look very aerodynamic, as it's flat
xtrm3d
06-27-2005, 03:41 PM
what are the holes in the cowling for?
i was thinking about mounting 4 cannon inside .. ,
the airscoop under the fuselage doesn't look very aerodynamic, as it's flat
well actually the rear part is quite streamlined , but you are right with the front ... thancks for your valuable aeronautical expert adavice .. i would corect it with the next update
YasushAzush
06-27-2005, 05:18 PM
this big noise is not stick to the air plane noise i mean it is not close to other parts............change it plsssssssssss:)
Skyraider3D
06-27-2005, 08:02 PM
Some more aeronautical blabla, feel free to ignore :D
* all engine intakes are way too tiny to work
* If you place cannon in the cowling, where would the ammo come from? I wouldn't wrap them around the engine, as it's not a very good idea to heat up the ammunition rounds ;)
* give it wingtip tanks, so it has enough fuel for all those engines ;)

06-27-2005, 08:17 PM
looks very nice,it needs a bit more detail though. like on the cowling...like the cockpit a lot:)
keep up the good work

your a sub-d pimp too i guess :)
xtrm3d
06-28-2005, 03:55 AM
ok ..
changed some diferent thing on the plane after gathering diferent advice
reworked the front part , nose was too big , no need for cannon or munition cause actually the plane itself is teh weapon , enlarged the air intack , killed the protuberance on the nose cause they did kill the body line , moved the echapement base in a place where they did make more sense and changed 2 of the 4 xtra motor to xtra fuell tank :-)
i plan to do the detaiiling ( pannel and bolt ) with the texture
http://xtrm3d.com/temp/zero7.jpg
hamtidamti
06-28-2005, 04:40 PM
looks much better, I like the pipe on the ground...but I think that you need a bit more details on the engine under the wing or whatever that's supposed to be:scream:.
keep on crankin:bounce:

06-28-2005, 10:36 PM
Dude this sucks!!!. :surprised ..i don't see textures, propellers,.....where the heck are the jet engines. Hell redo this crap!!!

upadte on the plane + pilote ..
next step would be texturing and riging ...
changed the wing motor , conected them to the wings as sugested by skyraider3d
changed the overall aspect to something more streamlined :-)

Very nice indeed. I'd make the base a bit darker though (concrete grey).
What does the text read? :)
xtrm3d
07-14-2005, 10:34 PM
thank you ..
well the kanji should mean something like
nipon + tsunami on the motor and samurai on the wings
but take it with a grain of salt , cause my source..was not a natif japanese
good type for the soil,.. is obviously too light
