This is a render i made for my shading and lighting class last month. Done in Maya 4. Im not quite happy with it myself but hopefully will get decent grade. This is my first post, any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

You might want to use a newer photo.
There are two buildings in the sky line that are not there any more.

Just a thought.

hi ..and welcome..
i think you had a good start..
but in my opinion you should add some more details to the truck
:
:
the exhaust pipes could have some hole and some stuff like that..
and the tires.....the tires looks like from a lego ... don't get me wrong, it's just my opinion, but they look not like Truck tires!
maybe you can try a bumb on the tires...
:
:
but go on really good good work!
hope to see some updates!

Looks good. One thing i would say is maybe turn down the filter on the dmap shadows. Sunlight casts a more defined shadow than the ones in the image. I like all the texture work though. Do you go to FS? if so maybe a boston background instead of NY would have been better....j/k.

concerning the model, i have no complaints, its good for like gaming standards....while the background, is another story, i donno why the tops of those buildings are black, its like forshadowing the future....i also thought of an actual shadow from maybe a passing cloud, but it just doesn't look like that....

looks pretty good, my only crits is what the other doods said..plus don't take out the buildings...just because they're not there doesn't mean they shouldn't be remembered, imho.
