...bug that alias makes you pay 1200 bucks to get the workround to. :( Somewhere else I saw you have to change the file to a "pcfl" type using a program caled resedit on the mac. That program is for 0s9. Does anyone know a good way around this?! :banghead:

Hey Wes,

You have to go to the main menu, Window>Settings/Preferences>Plug In Manager... and check the objExport.lib so it will Load and Auto Load. It doesn't do this by default. Try that, and if it doesn't work try to check the other plugs with "import" or "Translator" in the name. I'm pretty sure it's the objExport (you'd think it would be objImport). cause OBJ import works for me on my Mac...

Thanks for the reply but I actually know how to load them normally. However, there is a known maya bug on the mac that it won't open obj files created on the mac. It is this bug I seek a work around too. Some have said the file needs to be resaved as a unix obj but I have had no luck...

I had a feeling by looking at your site that you knew a thing or two and my advice was pretty basic...

I did a few quick tests and was able to import successfully an OBJ file created in Silo and in Maya, both on my Mac. However I could not import into Maya an OBJ file that I exported from Lightwave 8, but I could with Silo. I then exported that LW file from Silo and it opened fine in Maya. The Maya OBJ opened in LW...

So, overall I am able to open object files in Maya. I am running OS 10.3.5 and Maya 6.01.

What were your specifics or could you send me a link to a thread that covers this I/O issue? I'd like to be on the guard for future problems and try to find a workaround.

Thanks Wes.

Well I dfinallt figured it out with the help of an expert from okino graphics (the makers of polytrans.) Basically, the maya bug will not read mac format objs so you have to open it in a text editor like bbedit and save it with unix style line breaks. (Make sure to do it to your mtl file as well.) After that, everything imports beautifully!
