First sketch of the layout. The idea is to liken it to the classical movie posters of the star wars era.

To speed things up as I dont have much time left, I immediately skipped to the line drawing. The idea is to have a movie poster with references from star wars, Riddick, Frazzeta, Daryl Mandrick and much more. The underlying story tells of an alien attack. The main heroes are represented in the picture as well as the main bad guys. The aliens destroy the world by ramming it with a huge space ship and there is no choice but to escape. The aliens are sort of trying to emulate humanity as their home is absurdely abstract. Therefore the aliens need a material form that can survive in our universe.

hi, nice clean linework. The semicircle (of a planet?) is looks like a useful way to unify your picture.

Thank you,
yes, the half circle represents a planet and I hope to unify and differentiate between certain parts of the picture in a way that makes sense.

Thanks... :)

In my work process I always like to do a black and white version before I start to put colour in. That way I can see if the contrast works well...

No time to write more, a lot to do... :)

Update on the colouring process. I believe I found a colour comp that I like. :)

It's looking nice! You've packed a lot of different motifs in there, which makes it fit the theme well. Right now my eye is drawn to the most saturated part of the image, which is the top of the planet. If that's where you want to draw the most attention, then no worries, but if you want the focal point to be somewhere else, add more saturation. For example, if you want the characters at the bottom to be the first to catch the eye make them more saturated than the planet. I do like the saturation level of the ehads at the top, they appear almost ghostlike, clear but not the main attraction. Good luck in the final days!

I really wanted to have the focus on the planetary explosion since that is the pivotal event that really changes everything for the inhabitants. I am considering to have the heads at the top of the picture recede even more into the background as I do not want them to stand out too much.
I also feel as if there is still need to put darker elements into it... But hey, I still got two days left, plenty of time. *irony*

Thanks alot and I'll try to make it... :)

Hi all,

this really is a fun challenge to see all these sophisticated pieces of work flying around. Since I saw many intricate story lines in this topic I just wanted to piece together a few final words as background for this image.

The idea was that mankind encountered a dimensional rift in the future and made contact with a species that is so totally alien to mankind that the establishment of contact was actually an attack in the other dimension.
When first the extra dimensional beings came into our dimension they had to adapt with many sacrifices to a totally alien and strange world to them. That is the reason why they imitated human forms and technology to a certain degree. Since they did not have deep knowledge about our universe they had to rely on very simple machinations. Finally they came up with an idea for devastation.
The extra dimensional beings, much larger in numbers than humanity, built a super structure that would be capable of ramming a whole planet and thus eradicating life on the planet. As a side effect it was nearly impossible for humanity to destroy this dreadnought.
The sad outcome was the destruction of a major human colony and the only choice left was to flee under heavy attack.

Hope that is an interesting side story and thanks alot to everybody who entered the challenge.
