Nice image, but I have a question. Did you write that caption before or after the image was created. If it was before, then I would say yeah you may have a problem hehe.
I woould like to see it more refined later on.

i wrote it during drawing the guy with the fat lip :)
heres some experimenting with colours.
i still have to fix up some things around the image and get the fat humans arm correctly before i get to do the final colouring...

since i rarely colour for 2d illustrations..im not really good with placing light. so i started to look at some work done by matte artists and whatnot. this lead me going from justin sweets website (www.justinsweet.com), to www.draw123.com. and there i found a little step by step process of a certain image by justin sweet. so im trying it out. first step is outline...the second is a grayscale image outlining the lighting.
knowing how craig mullins likes to work. by placing some hard strokes initially to define hard lighting on the shapes....and then going into detail..i felt like trying it out.
so first i laid down a few hard white strokes.. and then went ahead and started working on the details.

Ambient- Justin sweet's tut is a great helper, stumbled upon it not long ago, his work is amazing and fresh.
Working it out in greyscale at the beginning is the best method for me right now. I just can't apply paint on complex images and have them turn out (unlike some great painters).
Painting in an alpha mask channel, loading the selection(s) to a layer and paint right over it works good too.
I beat myself up for using it as a "crutch" but who cares, I can always convert it to a sienna colored traditional look underpainting. LOL
Can't wait to see this work finished!
Creepy stuff :)

Of course youve seen his work here before, his name is, Timo Viholla(?) Very often in the 2D sections. I say if you need help lighting your scene, that guy has the most dramatic and dynamic lighting I have seen here for a local (forum) artist.
BTW, sweet man, sick and sweet at the same time.

ya. one reason why i wanted to play around with lighting is because most my art looks as if its being lit from the camera like in a 3d app. its kind of limiting as far as mood goes..
heres a little variation i had a few days back. felt it was too dull. and the lighting was very confused. so i scrapped it.

( btw. i know timo:) he was working on texturing one of my models a while back.:) ( dunno whatever happened to it tho. )
heres an image he sent me of it.

Nice! You should check out Goya's 'The Horrors of War' etchings, there's a lot to learn from those old masters.

Great looking piece of work, I rarely take any 2D work beyond the sketch stage for 3D planning, so I cant really comment too much other than to add my congratulations. Nice work.

Lets get funding, and create a short animation piece called Dante's Inferno.
You should read some of that for inspiration regardless. You could also look at there was a door, sculpted by Rodin, the gates of hell.:airguitar

I know Martin's high standart of work.I just don't think that a blocked out wip (from any artist, good or great) should be displayed up there at this point.I think that the moderators could have choosen from a large variety of other finished pictures.I'm sure that when finished this pic will deserve a great large thumb at the cgchannel main page. But that is my opinion and i feel i have every right expresing it. I'm sorry if you don't like it.
Martin..this is not against you and i really like you pic very much.I just think that some times the moderators are caried away and showcase work of well known artists without thinking that other not so well known artists would need and deserve that short of display a lot more. I feel i should express my great respect to you and to you your work once again.
