View Full Version : Multiple masks on an object

This may seem like a really stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway.

I've recently finished modelling a scene and I'm moving onto the texturing side of things. Since this is my first scene in over a year I'm struggling to find my feet again especially in redards to texturing.

What I've done so far texture wise:
I have a floor with a hole I've modelled into it. The floor is in an unused storage room so I want it to have damp areas, cracks, dirt, grime etc.

I've applied the appropriate uvw map to cover the surface area (the boards mat ID1) and aligned everything the way I want it and anoter uvw to the inner wood that is visible in the hole (mat ID2). I used a multi sub object material to differentiate between the two materials.

I used photoshop combined with some ready made textures of floor boards and I created an alpha map and an appropriate specular map to use as a mask for a blood streak on the floor, which looks great.

But the topology is as in this image.
http://s04.imagehost.org/1499/Topology_jpg.t.jpg (http://s04.imagehost.org/view.php?image=/1499/Topology.jpg)

I used a diffuse color to get the look of the blood and applied a mask on top of the boards bitmap....but there is only one mask slot, and even If I can apply another mask, how do I make sure that what is under it is something other than the diffuse color?

I know these are silly questions, it's just that I've been staring at tutorials and this screen for days and I still can't figure it out....so frustrating.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

here's some screen grabs...
ive made a couple of variations...

[screen01]
shows a simple hierarchy of using the COMPOSITE map with MASKs

[screen02]
show an alternative by using the MIX map

[screen03]
shows a more of the COMPOSTE map

if u need to switch layers, just drag one button over the other, a dialog will appear for u to copy, swap, instance it. more info on F1

i hope this helps! :)

Thanks that helps alot.

I think I'm looking for number 3 for this situation, but all will be useful in the future. I ahve to go out now but when I get back I'll give them a try and get back to you.

Again thanks very much for the help :)
