Phew, very tired now, been working late on this one, not
getting much time. Anyway..... nuff complaining.
I haven't really been able to tweak it, which is usually the
difference between an ok model and a GREAT model for
me. I still need to add all the cool details, powerpacks, gadgets,
weapons (of course, *grin*) and obviously texture. But
Here's where I am now..... with all that mech stuff all over
the place I think all he can probably do animation wise is
scratch his knee, but I'll work on it.
Enjoy.... (well hopefully)
Cheers All, Dave GREAT weekends..... Dave.
oh yeah, if anyone wants more pics or wires, let me know.
Don't have too much time but I will see what I can do.
02-08-2002, 09:23 PM
wow... great model....
wireframes... wireframes.... wireframes....
02-08-2002, 09:32 PM
Very very sweet. I'd love to see a textured version of it in the near future. Not just plain metal but rather with scratches and dust and paint etc...
Very nice model
02-09-2002, 02:17 AM
DO NOT ADD textures, IT'S far better looking this way.Very interesting and HAVE NO idea how u made such complexity.
DO u use Rhino to make. the mechanic pieces.
THE hands look kinda WEIRD.
02-09-2002, 03:37 AM
 Aye, amazing work. and more details coming? mama mia..
though, one thing i can crit on (halfheartedly) is the hands.
they seem a tad too small imo.
02-09-2002, 03:46 AM
Yeah, I totally agree, I have rushed quite a few things that
DEFINATELY need to be reworked, and the hands are top
of the list. Also it's all done in Lighwave.
Cheers, thanks for the feedback. Dave.
02-09-2002, 04:15 AM
I can't say much more than amazing work.. I can see why your loosing sleep over it.. very impressive
02-09-2002, 04:29 AM
Jeez you work fast man. And still amazing detail. How many hours did you spend modelling this fellah? Its so great to see mechanic designs that aren't direct rips of some mid '80s anime. Is anyone else tired of that crap? Very nice stuff, can't wait to see more.
02-09-2002, 05:59 AM
hmmpf....amazing.just want to say impressive work!
02-09-2002, 03:48 PM
... fantastic ...
02-09-2002, 04:44 PM
w...w.....w..wow!!!!! that is really great stuff dave!!! Wohoo!! lead the way for your fellow South Africans!!! :) ummm dave are u based in cape town and if so what is it exactly that you do?
Thanks in advance
Wery nice model and desing. I would like to see his hand thou when it's open.. :D
02-10-2002, 08:14 AM
Gorgeous. You seem to have a firm grasp on both mechanics and anatomy. You don't see very many cases where they jive that smoothly. Keep up the good work, I want to see more.
02-10-2002, 08:21 AM
Great work mate. I can see you've put a lot of work into your character.
I'm with the other guys. The hand looks funny on this character.
Maybe you could make the fingers a little bit wider(they seem thin. Also, could you scale the hand up to about two thirds the size of the head.
Keep up the good work.
02-10-2002, 11:36 AM
Nice stuff....I'm so jealous of the fact that everyone seems to be able to model really well while I'm having trouble...on that note, I'd really like to see some wireframes.
Then maybe..just maybe, I might learn something....
How hard is it to build this kind of thing in Lightwave?
And which package would you use for this kind of modelling if you had the pick of the bunch?
I love it! I would like to see some more renders, though :)
Also, are you going to animate it?
02-10-2002, 02:59 PM
Thanks for all the crits dude !! I think the hands definately need
some attention. So they will be getting it, I also need to do
work on the joints and some other areas too...
To answer some questions I spent about 2-3 Hours a night
for around 9 or 10 Days so, hmmmm bout 27-30 Hours I guess,
was a crazy rush. I guess that would make it about 3-4 full
days of work. But you can see it's a little rushed specially things
like the hand which I did in like the last hour *grin*
[Grant] Yeah I am based in Cape Town. I Head up 3D for
Wicked Pixels. Working mainly on commercial and at the moment
working on our Shortfilm.
[Spike] He was built in Lightwave, and to be honest I am not
really familiar with other 3D modelling packages. Some guys at the
studio do use Max and it's seem like a very good modelling package too. In lightwave it was pretty cool to model 7's modeller
is awesome, and a GREAT modelling package.
[Moo] Definately going to animate. I will now work out joints and
stuff, and adjust my model a little. I will also pump out more
renders when I rig him properly.
Cheers All, thanks for the feedback.

You rules Dave! :D:D
02-10-2002, 05:21 PM
Just curious - how many verts (polys) does your assassin have.
Awesome work I must say
02-11-2002, 10:44 AM
I want calves like this guys ;). Once again your mechanics rule! Have you considered dividing the lower chest plate into a front and a back plate? Would open it up for some nice details under the arm (only noticed it in the fist-forward-side-on pose.) Could we get a full-leg shot? Want to see how they work in more detail.
Once again - great work (see - you DO rule - despite what some people may say).
02-11-2002, 02:31 PM
Brilliant - once again, Dave!:D Can't wait for the animation.
The short that you are working on...will this be available to download from the Wickedpixels website (when it's done)?
02-11-2002, 02:41 PM
Thanks for all the feedback again dudes....
The polycount Ilmarinen is tricky to say, cause
his armour is modelled in nurbs and I up or down
the count for various shots. At it's HIGHEST patch division
of 5 per poly, the poly count comes in at around 150 000.
Andrew, I actualy hadn't considered it, but when I looked
at what you were saying, I saw that it would be kinda cool.
I think I'll fix things that look crap first (freakin hands) and
then get back to cool stuff.
Werner, yeah the short will DEFINATELY be available for download. Can't give an exact date when it will be done,
it's a downtime project which we don't get too much of, but
hopefully by end of March. The Assassin isn't part of it.
Cheers All, Thanks Again.
Oh, Andrew go to 3Dartists, www.raph.com dude you must
check out these two models of these warrior chick things, WOW !!
Can't remember the name of the artist. Cool Stuff though.
02-12-2002, 10:07 AM
Absolutely amazing. I checked them out when they were first on. Its one of my regular stops :D. The creases and folds are nuts! Oh - unrelated - are you a mario fan? Got the funniest flash movie.
What are you going to do with the hands btw? Can I suggest keeping the armour off them? Unless you make them bigger (Im sure you checked out Pascal's dude in the challenge last month. Big hands and fingers - individual armour). Your mechanics are so hot though - I think the hands may work better with them (perhaps some rubber finger-padding though). Just a thought :)
03-06-2002, 11:03 PM
Maybe an update? I really like this "Assassin"..... it's so cool! ^^
01-24-2003, 06:04 PM
Awesome mechanics as usual Dave ;)
01-24-2003, 06:59 PM
I really like it especially the design of the head
01-24-2003, 07:19 PM
the model is amazing!
The only thing I can say is that it would be that much more interesting if the details mechanical elements were a slightly different texture/color. Not a whole lot different though.
Maybe a a little darker, or less shiny and smooth?
just a thought.
01-25-2003, 12:10 AM
Thanks for the feedback !!!
Been a while since I heard from this post... there actually
is a much more updated post since this...
More updated Assassin (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15215&perpage=15&pagenumber=1)
Actually think this would be better for the gallery, but not up to me, :) heh heh.
Anyway, I also did a little animation test with the assassin which I will post if anyone actually wants to see ;)
Cheers ALl, sorry if the post is a little odd, after a couple of beers and tequilla posting is tricky !!

04-05-2005, 12:18 AM
It's a interesting model, and the materials you have used...
hmmm...very nice...anyways, the robot assassin's plating looks like it's made of ceramic..i like it..!!
07-20-2005, 10:41 AM
