View Full Version : Quadro 4 550xgl worth getting?
Hi All
I have a geforce4 TI 4200 128 mb but i'm not too happy with the openGL in either max or combustion.
I saw the quadro4 550xgl at a good price, but is it worth getting?
I'm not sure if perhaps the settings for my gf4 are not optimal but i would like better openGL performance.
Any ideas?
thanx.

No, wait for the new cards. No miracles here with 750 XGL.
Hi, ok cool.
I was wandering though, new cards from what manufacturer?
and would anyone know if the nforce range or Matrox Parhelia are any good. I'm mainly concerned with Combustion here but don't have the huge cash.
thanx
nForce, as in the motherboard? i heard they had some pretty cool features, but were expensive and not that much better than anything out there. Look up the reviews.
As for the parhelia, the only things that has going for it is dx9 compatability and triple head display. Its slow (just barely faster than the ATI 8700), and very expensive. With the ATI 9700 coming out, the parhelia is no longer the only dx9 card in a world without dx9 software, making it a horrible purchase. Again, find the reviews.
How does this relate to comubstion? isn't that a compositing program? if so why are you asking about mobos and video cards, don't they make specialized cards for those apps?

If you're doing 2D such as combustion more than 3D, I'd actually suggest a card such as a Parhelia over anything nvidia has to offer. They're good cards, but the image quality just isn't there.
Hi every one,
Thanx for all the replies but i have decided to wait for the new cards as advised and see what they have to offer.
