Well I missed out on the Catapult! (Trebuchet) challenge but coincidently I was making a trebuchet for a school project and stumbled across these FXWars and thought that everyone here might like to see how mine turned out.

Although itís not textured nor is there a wall getting smashed up, I think it turned out pretty good. There were no keys used (except for baking it out) no keying the releasing mech. All dynamically driven with an expression thrown in at the end to make the entire treb roll forward.

only miner issues are that it seems to roll forward too much, the rope falls threw the high-res mesh due to the difference between the high and low mesh.

This is my first shot at using Mayaís dynamics and I had a lot of fun making it. I shall try the next challenge if I think Iím up to it.

Sweet as! PLEASE could you tell me how you made the ropes and the sling!
Please!!

Sincerely,
Philip

Hey Phil

The rope is made of a long thin NURBS Cylinder with all its CV constrained to clusters. The clusters are then constrained to the low poly geometry (one cluster for every link). I made the low poly chain by using many pin constraints. Make sure the when doing all this that you bake out your low poly geometry and get rid of all dynamics..

Hereís a link to a small part of mine to get you started: http://www.bryan-howard.com/Temp/rope.zip

Good luck

Ok, I got the ropes working. but the pouch that carries the projectile. This is the biggest problem for my treb. I simply can't get it to work. I tried making planes with other planes going up the sides. That worked best. But it doesn't matter how I manipulate it, the projectile ALWAYS falls out the side :banghead: . If I make the planes too big, I geat a non-realistic result. Please, I'm so desperate. I've look ALL over the net and I didn't find anything that qould help me. I even looked at your playblasts a couple times, it won't work!

Sincerely,
Phil
