View Full Version : ATI Radeon X800 Mac Edition released
KreatorOvWorldz 01-05-2005, 05:56 PM for those Mac users on the board, the X800 was released today. the main advantages of the card are that it doesnt block another pci-x slot, and still runs a 30" display but also has an ADC connector for you previous gen displays. So far it does very well on the first performance tests, providing equal or better performance than a 6800 Ultra but is half the physical size and $100 cheaper. Of course you wont be able to hook up dual 30" with it.

No Maya or other 3D app test that I know of yet, so the jury is really still out on this card until enough pros pick up the card and use it and report back.

Do you need a special video card to run those 30" monitors with Windows PC's? I saw one at a apple store yesterday and its beyond amazing.

I think they use standard DVI connectors, so shouldn't be much trouble with a PC. They also just got a bit cheaper as of yesterday, when Apple knocked the price down by several hundred buckaroos.
Very nice.

At very least you will find that the screen resolution results have been faked in Photoshop. The spec for the card on the Asus website claims that it can go to a maximum screen resolution of 2048x1536 yet this test claims that it is running at 2560x1600. If you don't believe me here is the link to the Asus site.

Do a little research before believing some unknown teenagers claims. Photoshop is easier to use than creating high end video cards. Apple went to some lengths with Nvidia to design a card that would drive this amount of pixels. I also assume it can drive it with the speed it needs for video editing and other realtime video applications. I have yet to see the best PC cards (of which I have one myself) run video without onscreen breakup.

Some of those Apple Cinema Displays have a massive number of pixels. I imagine it would take a pretty good graphics card to drive them.
Apple's website recommends the nVidea GeForce 6800, but the new ATI card was only released today, so that's probably why it's not yet on Apple's site...

Apple also mentions that "dual link DVI connectors" are being used to achieve the high resolution. Maybe that means you need a card that supports such a thing.
