I'm in the market for a either a new CD-RW/DVD combo drive or a DVD-RW drive. My current CD-RW/DVD combo drive's eject button is slowly failing. Should I spend the extra £10 and get a DVD-RW? If so, will it burn reliable CDs as well? If so, can you offer any recommendations?

*EDIT* - I've found THIS (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=121146) DVD burner. Does anyone know if it's any good?

I have always had luck with Plextor, I don't know anything about this particular model. But it sounds good. If the price is right then buy it. It says it come with Nero 6 and PowerDVD so thats nice.

definately get a dvd burner.

much easier to back up to one dvd rather than a stack of cd's...
try to get one that supports +/-rw if possible to insure maximum compatability.

that plextor drive looks pretty good to me.
good price too.

I would go for a Dual Layer DVD burner at this point.

Ok so I'll get that drive but what about media? Any recommendations, I'd mostly be backing up work.

some blank dvd's? :D

any branded dvd's are generally ok...available from most computer shops.
check the speed of the discs with the spec of your drive (4x, 8x etc.)
just don't get the dirt cheap ones made by a brand you haven't heard of...
