Hi all, I'm using 3dsmax 7 and I'm working on this high poly character that will wear clothes as well. The thing is, to make modeling easier I would prefer to work in the typical modeling pose, and then rig/skin and pose the model in the final pose for the render. I have a question about this though, since I have no experience at all with rigging/skinning:
- I don't intend to model the full body or even sweater (since there will be a jacket over that as well), so should I attach all these bits and pieces of mesh together, use a multi-sub material to texture and then rig/skin the model like this? Or could I leave the various parts of the character as seperate meshes and just group things together (I don't plan to stitch various parts of this model together into a closed mesh)?
- Should I skin/rig the original model or is it always wise to use a copy of this model and keep the original hidden or in a seperate file (just wondering what is usually done).
- Is there somewhere a good tutorial on skinning/rigging in 3dsmax or will the reference manual be good enough? I'm still in the proces of modeling her so I haven't really digged in this subject matter yet (you can also tell me to just stfu & rtfm ;) )
edit: obviously I tried to look with my nose and I missed this tutorial sticky thread: http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=49073
