01-04-2005, 04:20 PM
it's the first time I post one of my works here on CGtalk.
This is a really short movie (1 min more or less) produced in few days just for fun.
WORKING LINK for XviD:
here the XviD codec:
a divX version here (the XviD is better and smaller):
Please, C&C are welcome.

+ The character has lot of personality
+ The animation was funny
+ Nice "Cartoonish" rendering
- You should have animated his eyes a bit more...
- Way too short...you MUST (:D) make new stuff with this snake.
But, anyways, great movie. :buttrock:

hahaha, awesome short, actually made me laugh out loud. Great character :)

Since the character you made is original and funny it's a pity you haven't made the clip longer. You really should make some more animations with this character. great work!

This has the potential to be really great. But you don't DO anything to impress here. The snake doesn't ever move from that spot on the ground. It is a fabulous character and I would love to see him moving around and doing something, give him some life. I like your idea for his style of motion, but it needs some more polish. If it is going to be very quick and snappy like that, you really need some more anticipation and then probably some more follow through of differnt parts. Right now it just basically pops, which looks wierd. You need to anticipate the move so the audience can follow it and it doesn't seem like a pop. The move that really works is the one when he eats the flower. It doesn't seem so abrupt, because you have that anticipation. Great work though. I love the tongue!

Thanks for all the comments.
The first critic was about the shortness of the movie and the low number of actions the snake does: it's true.
I'm sorry but I didn't have much time to make it. it's just for introducing the character, but it was fun and i hope to create other movies with him.
Disrupt: many movements are not natural and without any anticipation. This is true too.
I tried to find a funny animation style, unnatural but humorous, tring
movements of the kind "ON/OFF" if you get what i mean...pose to pose, without transition (or minimal) something inspired a bit to the manga's style. I surely have to perfect... I hope to improve
Smooth I used simple standard material for the body, with little specular and a very simple texture.
Than i just switched a preset in vray indirect illumination rollout: medium animation, and yellow environment.
A spot light with shadow map, and some other point lights only for the eyes.
Finally I played a bit whit sharpen, color correct, and glow in combustion.
If you want I can show the texture or a frame without combustion effects.
thanks again :)

yeah, i defenitly wanna see it

This is the texture for the green body part with UVs projection on it
The rest of the body has no texture.
And there are the post production effects:

The still looks great!
However I can't get the download to work so I can't view the animation. :(
Still looks promising though...

Lovely character that!
A shame about the broken link. I'd love to see the animation.
Could you please fix that link?

Nice. I have to agree with previous posters, not much happening. But interesting none the less.
You have to make him move around a bit more, I'd really like to see his body move. Make him sneak up on different characters, make him guard the zebra crossing. Have him bite people's toes. Maybe try these snappy poses in different environments?
If you were to add eye movements as someone said, he'd get so much more life. You should consider eyelids too. Maybe just half a sphere, so the modelling won't take to much time?
Please tell us if you make something more with him.

for sure i have to make a short movie with a real story.
I think it is a good idea to add eyelids and other movements of the eyes, pupil's width also.
I have to perfect animation, and think about walking styles. I hope that I have
time to do all this stuff.. right now i have to work on the thesis at the university(college).
I will think about the snake but I will produce nothing more until some

I think this is a great little animation. I agree with the above in that some shots need a little more anticipation, but I really like the way you restrained yourself.
I usually don't like 3D animations that feel overly animated; they look to impress, but usually don't (sorry to all the peeps that do like to over-animate their stuff ;)) So I really like the no-nonsense snappy motion of your piece.
So generally I like it. Your lighting is great by the way. It's nice to see that a tiny bit of tweaking in post can make a difference.
I look forward to seeing more from this snake.
And indeed... I love the tongue action... don't change a frame, it's hilarious!!! :applause:

I really enjoyed it. I liked the way you mixed snappy quick movements with the long slow, kinda hypnotising movements of the neck and head. It gives the snappy movements that much more suprise and power.
You also have a very cool character design.
