i dont know if this is the correct forum for this question, but here it is. we recently made a site for a film we did and we want to put a trailer for download. im trying to find what is the most common codec capable of compressing a 1 minute video down to about 3 mb for low res and 5-7 mb for hires. any ideas?

My educated guess would be MPEG4 (DivX/XVid) or WMV. They delivery the best overall quality while keeping the size small. Only problem with these formats is that they are not very Mac friendly. You may want to look at encoding the files in 2 formats (Quicktime and WMV or MPEG4)
