I received this and under the properties tab it shows maxon-computer.com. NOTE: Maxon is maxon.net, not maxon.com .this email has a virus and Norton Anti-virus caught it. I forwarded it to maxon US and DE to make them aware and thought y'all should know about this too. Scary that it has a maxon-computer.com header in the properties tab.

bob

here is what the email says.

I was surprised, too!
Who_could_suspect_something_like_that? shityiiiii and has an attachment.

dang .. whats up. I just got another email with an attachment with the same header: maxon-computer.com. I deleted this one right from the get-go. I don't have maxon in my address list in Outlook Express.

beware,
bob

Someone who has you and Maxon in his adressbook just cought a Virus.
A lot of trojans use email adresses they find in their hosts adressbook to fake sender ids.
Only one thing you can do, NEVER open the attachements.

Will this affect Macs too?

Neil V You will receive the same SPAM regardless of Mac or PC, however by far the most viruses and trojans are Windows only so chances are good you won't get your system infected.

A great virus solution recommended to me by a friend was Avast http://www.avast.com
It's completely free, runs minimal resources, runs real time, nukes viruses before they infect you and doesn't bug you like Norton etc, also checks email, internet and every file on your system. It only requires that you register.

Thanks Srek. Always good to be aware.

Yes, it really sucks. Someone was recently sending around a virus using my return address. Before that someone was sending around a *lot* of spam using my return address. :/

Yes, I use this as well. Works perfectly. It does require you to register to download the free home edition. I've been using it for 2 years or so. Machine's nice and clean :D

yeah Adam,

since i have my emails on my web site and sig - there are weeks i get hundreds of bounced emails and spams that are from my domain - of course the names the domain are wacky but still i get hundreds of bounce backs... i think this is totally random and done just using their spiders to scour for domains to use as none actually come from my domain just the return address being mine.

it does stink and geez you would think some law would be able to really crack down on that - if you send a letter with a fake address that is mail fraud but you can send out a million emails from someone else - flooding their servers with bounceback as well as possibly hurting thier reputation and there is nothing to be done about it.

i too by the way have been getting these maxon emails - i think up to 5 now as of this point

Doesn't anyone wonder why we Maxon users are getting these messages (or where they're coming from?)

Howdy,

Yep, I got one, too, only not from Maxon, but from someone who uses Cinema 4D. I'm just thankful for my ISP's Virus Blocker quarantine.

Adios,

I've gotten 13+ today, some of which are apparently routing to me via:
maxon-3d-news-list@maxon-computer.com

Has someone harvested all Maxon's contact names?

Oh that things looks like a good thing for spammers and hackers. Does it work slow? will it cause a lot of pain without killing them to fast?

Cactus Dan

Howdy,

Sure, you can set to last a week, if need be.

4 here. Actually, I wonder if it is possible to use *all* of the devices on each spammer. Just to be nice, we'll let them choose which one they get to "play with" first. They will also be pelted with salt and rocks during the entire ordeal :-)

This looks like someone is spoofing the maxon-computer.com address.

I'm currently investigating this issue...

Can you please forward the suspect email including all headers to stephen@maxon.net

I was greeted by another 8 or 9 messages this morning. Stupid stupid spammer spoofer viroids.

Hi Stephen, I got two. (me???) but they have been stopped by my isp (automatic virus protection in e-mail) so I cannot send them. I do have the following data:

Auto-Mailer@mxnl01.web.de - Win32.HLLM.Sober - 2005-01-03 - 01:33:20
user_info@giga.de - Win32.HLLM.Sober - 2005-01-03 - 01:53:15

Thanks for all the mails.

I have enough info now to trace this.

There is no need to send me anymore mail headers.

Cheers
