First of all, Happy New Year...:)
As I have been a very good girl :applause: I want to buy a graphic tablet, but my problem is that I donīt know which one choose.
I have seen Wacom Intuos 3 and seems is a good option, but I would like to know your opinion. Iīm newbie and Iīm a little bit lost about all this kind of subjects. I donīt want to spend a lot money, but I can afford a cost of 500€/677$
So, many thanks for your future help!

Do not buy anything other than a Wacom. Intous is better than Graphire, but is much more expensive.

I bought an intuos3 9x12 before the holidays and couldn' tbe happier with it.
I bought it brand new from a major online retailer for $400USD.
Worth every dollar, IMHO.

i had an intuous on lone for a few months, and it was great. but i have to dissagree on the monopoly. Wacom is definately the best, but by no means do you have no other choice. there are cheaper choices if you cant afford a wacom, and a cheap tablet is better than no tablet at all.

I say that as an owner of an Aiptek. Sure it will "work", but if you want quality, then Wacom is much better. (I use Intous 2's at school) My Aiptek requires a battery for the pen, so if the battery dies, they you are out of luck. The pressure sensitivity is aweful, and no amount of adjusting can make it close to the performance of a Wacom. I threw the mouse away after the first day because it was to crappy (also requires batteries). Sure it was a good price, less than $100 USD for a 6X8, but I regret spending my money on it and not saving up for the Wacom. There have been many thread complaining about both Aiptek and Trust Tablets, all with similar problems. Save yourself the frusteration and buy a Wacom.

well i bought my tablet a few years back when wacoms werent cheaply come by in australia, so ive had to live with it. however, my university has about 20 intuous 6x8's on lone for BA:Animation students, so thats what i use when im at uni. but other than that, i make do with my inferior AceCAD tablet, and thank the lord im not using a mouse. the point remains that if you have the money go a wacom.

Well I think $500 is enough for a Wacom ;)
Go for intuos 3, 6x8 is a good size, 9x12 is quite big, make sure you need all that space.

I actually recently (as in, just over the past couple weeks) finally got my Intuos3 6x8. XP My little newbie thread is HERE. (http://www.cgtalk.com/showthread.php?t=196137) And I must admit that I love it. I know the price seems like a stretch, but I really think it's worth the extra money for a added features plus better quality. I have also seen the horror stories of those with Trust tablets that did the wavy thing when making a diagonal line and I honestly haven't had any problems with the Wacom yet.
The only two things I've found so far are weird symmetrical scratches coming down off the bottom of each of the button pads on both sides. They're the same size and in pretty much the same location on each side... o_o The thing about the Intuous3 is that the non-drawing space surface is shiny and can scratch pretty easily I think... although it's nice because it isn't glossy enough to show fingerprints. And the other thing is that my regular non Intuos mouse acts up a bit in games on the computer... in particular my scroll button doesn't do what it's supposed to anymore - but just in one game.
Other than that I definitely recommend this tablet - and if you're really heavy with the graphics, I'd go for the 9x12 version, especially if you have a nice budget. But also take into account the amount of desk space you have... I haven't been able to use my tablet as effectively as I'd like because at home here my desk is much smaller and I don't have a keyboard shelf like I do at school, so I have shuffle things around and typing while using it is almost impossible if you have a small desk. x_x; But for editing in photoshop and other programs is GREAT. And the customizability of the tablet makes it great for pretty much any program.
