View Full Version : Mother Earth delivers a surprise gift! Need Critique!!!!
GenConfusion 09-04-2002, 10:21 PM done in Pshop, so I can promote myself better in the fantasy market... I keep getting AD's who can't see that I could do this kind of work, simply because I don't have it in my book. It's the old story of he can draw a cow, but can he draw a horse.... it's a tough road to deal with as an artist, the tunnel vision, a paying client is shrouded by.. but I guess it's important to them to be that way, to ensure they get what they need from an artist. So why use someone who doesn't have it in their book, when there are artists out there who do... Well eventually I'll be one of the artists who have this type of work in their book ( at least enough of it to market myself properly).... and here's one of those hopefully many pieces to come...
it's pretty much done.... for what it is... I may go back into it and tighten up some areas, but I'm not sure I will, I'm happy with it so far.. but any C&C's you have to offer would be greatly appreciated...
thanks alot

Wow :surprised , That's just impressive, I really like it.
would need more details on the monster's hand... maybe...
But really like the atmosphere and all.
Love the lava feeling. Maybe some more lava/red reflexions on the armors would be right.
Someone please explain me how you guys do these sort of things, I just don't get it...
And these warriors are going to get hurt... that's for sure

Your talk about the "what's in the book only" thing: that's the great thing about on-line portfolio's ;) You can change them any time of the day...
Welcome aboard, very impressieve piece.

(crit's? maybe some more red reflections on the armour but he, looks great anyway...)
I bet you could draw a horse.
I like the image a lot. But I have to agree with the others. More reflections on the armor and the hands need some work. They're just so ... plain.
But those are really minor things. Overall, the illustration is wonderful. 4 1/2 stars from me. Because it's better than a 4, but not quite a 5. :applause:

I love the overall lighting, the dark areas and the light ones, nice oranges against blues. The beast pose its very dinamic, agonic, i like it very much but the knights.. the front one looks weird, the right arms seems wrong, i donīt know, too long and twisted maybe. The fingertips of the monster lloks flat too.
Itīs a great picture, nice colors and design.

Najd - yeah Im gonna do some more detailing on it, thanks for the suggestion.. I was also planning on doing a possible tutorial, if there is any interest in that?????
teknotek83 - yeah I forgot about those :)
jeroentje - yah that is an advantage but so many companies say they wont view your work that way... it's likew damned if you do damned if you dont
Kirt - yeah next piece is of a horse.. I'll show them... LOL
Pancreas - yeah I agree I did the knights gesture in PSHOP and the creature was planned out in pencil I gues my lack of interest toward the end of painting show through in the knights.. I'll try to fix it up...

It's usually what I do with photographers (I'm in advertising) who want to show their portfolio: ask for an URL first, if I like what I see there, I invite them over for tea and biscuits. Just saves me a lot of time...
Oh yeah, A tutorial would be one of the greatest things ever :applause:
and once again, amazing work !

The lava is nice, I myself can never figure out how to make a substance glow with paint. The right arm of the first knight does need a little work...looks like he is going to smack the beast with the flat of the blade maybe?
