My f irst shot at getting a character to do...well.. anything. In this case, walking into a room and jumping onto the couch. So much for it being simple... but this is the end result. Still have alot to learn :)..

woah thats advanced for a first time :)
good thing you dont whimp out and do too simple stuff..but maybe you should?
try some walkcykles to begin with..those are good, eventhough some may say that animating cykles could be bad since you never animate in cykles or whatever..but Id say its a good way to get started anyway..and if you wanna do games, thats the way to go anyways right? :)
but yeah, do a few walkcykles, then if you still like it and wanna progress..maybe getting a book or a dvd would be a good idea :)

Id try taping yourself first, and try to move the joints into those key positions, that should get you somewhere

One of the main keys to animation is arches and anticipation...after watching your animation, I saw that you should have him crouch before he jumps and when he does jump, there should be an arch, instead of a single pose on a diaganol line..other than that, it's pretty good..although, the start of the jump would be fast, the top of the jump would slow down a bit, and as he comes down, it'd speed up again...like the post above suggested, jump in that same manner while taping yourself to get timing, in order to get a video reference
