the picture with teh spaceship over land has objects that werent made in xsi. and i doubt they were done by the artist. i remember seeying that model years ago in some lightwave demos. ( around the time of LW 5.0-5.5-6 )

Thats the one I like the best and the landscapes look like composites.

I dunno, honestly I'm not too impressed with the work shown there. there are a few worth merit, but overall...

monkey impressed at spinning wheel. but monkey not impressed by cutting edge imagery? actually i kinda agree. only a few good images there. the rest make me wonder at where is the good work hiding. ( like from commercials ( yaya NDA this NDA that. but after the commercial is shown you should be able to submit an image of the commercial produced. )

I agree, I've seen better.
Check the Lightwave Gallery :D
Anyway, the "KUMA" is kinda cool. quite original.

ambient-whisper is right. that spaceship (in that gallery, titled "Take Off" by Bambi Martantio) was part of guest artist material included with LW 5.5, and I even still have the files.

pathetic.

I love xsi to death....but, the monthly gallery is always lacking.

the following link is to a 4.6MB .mov of the original scene and objects, clearly showing the space fighter. if i remembered the name of the artist, i'd put a little copyright statement here, but i'll find it once i get home, surely.

original animation/model (http://www.lyonhaert.net/public/sf-320.mov)

Yeah it's cool. But it's not much different than what can be found on other cg sites of various other packages. It seems like these days all the galleries of the various packages are starting to just meld into on another, I guess it just means 3d and the various packages out there are started to mature

Array,
Yeah, that is a pretty hard image to beat. It may not be the best 'ever' but I'm hard pressed to think of a better one.

I am always disappointed in the XSI gallery too. I think the software is great, but the gallery is so lackluster. Lightwave has, by leaps and bounds, the nicest product gallery out of ALL the 3d apps. I am a dedicated max user and I am learning XSI, but...

I like the creature that was used as the thumbnail. I think it's hilarious they included images like that faucet. What's that all about?

If I remenber well, the spaceship was part of the guest files with Lightwave 5.x, and the artist was Hisanori SAITO.

Edit:sorry, didn't see the post of Lionheart!

dunno about the spaceship, but the name of Hisanori SAITO sure rings a bell.. Didn't he have his own older of example files in the space folder of lw examples?

BTW.. this guy has 512 gb ram :) WOW!! half a terabyte

I voted for the droideka. liked the mapping and chipped paint

yeah, unfortunately, all the best work is probably under NDA so you probably won't see it unless its posted under the Customer Stories (http://www.softimage.com/Community/Xsi/Mag/Cs/) section. See us there too :-)

the pics look pretty good. but - again - nothing outstanding. and i think that the 512 Gb of ram is a mistake, probably 512 Mb, unless he has a 5 processor server and a 50 terabyte hard-drive rack. well....yea, thats my 2 cents - as you americans like to call it ;)

Nothing I mean nothing makes you say wow. The render quality isn't at the level that xsi can bring it. To the gallery artists: Comme on guys work more then 4 hours. Great work takes time...
