CGTalk - Vertex selection problem

I have problems selecting vertices in Editable Poly mode (Max 5).
When I try to select a vertex from a box in left oder in front view, it always selects the vertex behind. Also "ignore backfacing" doesn´t work properly. In Editable Mesh mode I haven´t any problems.
Is Editable Poly mode only for Polygons?
