Hi,
Since nobody is ever on the XSI forums and this is probably more of an XSI forum than theirs is, I thought I would get a reply here. Hopefully somebody here has done these tutorials or knows what I am talking about.

One of the tutorials is the "Beckmobile" it is a funky car and it introdusec you to modeling with Rotoscope images. At first the rotoscope is locked in place and I can zoom in to my particular area and start modeling to the spcs of the pic. All is good, until I hit "F" or "A" to show my mesh. When I do this, the rotoscope image becomes unlocked and as my mesh fills the screen, the rotoscope image stays the huge size that it was when I was zoomed in. Now my rotoscope image is unlocked and has lost its original proportions.

How do I get the correct proportions back with the model it was originally loaded with and locked in place? How do you prevent this from happening every time I hit "F" or "A".

Thanks

I was able to find some previous posts similar to mine. I Think I typed my search wrong before because I did not get much.

Anyway, it appears that I can zoom and pan and such with navigation methods, but cannot zoom all or frame selected because these are camera commands? Seems kind of annoying.

I figured out the camera memory and recall settings at the top along with ALT-Z to undo last camera move. These will be handy since I Am sure I will keep hitting "F".

The tutorials prior to this tell you to use the "A" key to fit your objects and then "F" to fit selected so I am used to doing this. Then on the next tut if you try these things you were just taught, then you lose it. Nice.

The tutorial I am on right now has the included rotoscope image set up so I am trying to follow it. All it says when it briefly mentions the image is "Rotoscopy will be covered in more depth later in the tutorial". Perhaps it should say "beware of using frame or show all command when using rotoscopy even though this is what we taught you earlier"

Anyway, I read that I can post images on planes rather than rotoscope and be able to frame my selection. I am doing my tutorials and have not come to this yet. Is it easy to set up?

No. Sorry.
XSI Base is great. I meant the forums at Softimage.
I think that XSI Base and CGtalk are viewed more and offer more support.

nessjp, you're not doing anything wrong. This is just the way that rotoscopes in XSI work. In order to keep your model in alignment with your rotoscope, you click the small icon that looks like a rectangular magnifying glass at the top of your viewport. If you hit F or A, that takes the model out of alignment.

Actually, it's best to map your background reference images onto grids and use the textured grids as a reference, because you can use the F and A keys and the model stays aligned to the background.

You'll need to apply a texture projection to each grid (Get > Property > Texture Projection > Create New Texture Projection), and then choose Planar XY, YZ, or XZ, whichever works. Then choose your image that you want to use. Set the viewport to Textured Decal view mode.

I don't like the way rotoscopes work in XSI, either, so you're not alone.

HTH, and Happy New Year!
