hi, i have this palm tree as editable poly.

now i want to bend the stem a little bit, but it should be equally bended at the insets at the same amount. how can i do that?

and why does the bend modifier not work here?

thanks!

I would detach just one segment with the groove, bend that, make copies, snap the pieces together, and weld.

Make sure to keep track of how many degrees are in the bend so you can rotate each piece accordingly.

Eeeehm from what I believe you're trying to do I'm wondering why it won't work either...

Have you tried selecting only the stem, then apply a bend?
But I suppose that doesn't move the leaves, so you might want to detach them, then later on, rotate or align them and weld it back together.

The bend should do what you're trying to achieve I believe, so the best thing would be to keep the stem in one piece, so it's easier to tweak. Not that marc001's method would not work, but I'd try to make the bend work for me to keep more control for the amount of bend all time.

umm, just bend the whole thing but limit the effect. that will move everything but based on the limited effect. should work.

you may have to select the stem then apply the bend with limiting effect. not sure.

thank you everybody.

i was really wondering why the bend modifier didnt work.

so i created a couple of other objects and applied the bend modifier there and it worked. then after i deleted those objects i tried the bend modifier on the palm again and this time it worked there too.

so it was either me too dizzy from new year or a bug in max. ;)
