View Full Version : Trail/Track in ground

Hello:

In the anim I am working on I have a vehicle moving across sand. I want to show the trails of the tires in the ground as the vehicle moves. I am not looking for great detial i.e. tread marks, just the sand mounded up where the tires have pushed the sand aside. I went to

and found a tut that did a displacement map using DFX.

Looked good but in my case a little over kill. I am thinking of modeling the mounded sand and have it appear based upon a alpha map that moves with the vehicle. There is a tut showing something like this on a Animated Cut Away T_Rex_1 (http://www.md-arts.com/ClipMapCutAway_T_Rex_1_viewlet.html). I am looking for other tut's or suggestions on how to do this.

you could you a particle emmiter and have the particles "stick" to the ground as the particles emmit....

Thanks for the Hypervoxel idea had not thought of that. I downloaded you sample scene and see what you mean. I will post a simple scene later when I get it setup.
