View Full Version : Learning DF
artificial kid 12-29-2004, 11:26 AM Hi, I just started working and discovered DF. I did all the courseware avaiable from eyone website. Can someone point me to books or sites were I can learn more about this software. I´m really impressed whit some features from this software, I usually work whit AE and Combustion, but this software really impresses me, I miss 3d features, but for what I read DF5 is comming out whit 3D features. Another question I have is about 3d particles, it is possible to do 3d particles in DF.
thanks

The current particle system is a 2.5D system. The particles exist in a 3D space, but they are only sprites when rendered.

i think there is a book called digital compositing in depth, it covers many compositors but its main aim is DF.

Besides reading the manual, going through the courseware and tinkering around yourself, I don't think there's really any more to learn from software itself. DF is very simple-to-use and intuitive, there isn't much deciphering to do to learn what each little button or knob does.
Of course, learning to combine the nodes properly and apply everything into a great looking composition is a whole different thing altogether and it's not something that can be taught much as each situation is unique and requires their own approaches.
I suggest you do reading on color theory, composition (as in how to frame a picture, what makes an eye to move around a painting etc.), blue/greenscreening and other more theoretical aspects of post work.
In the bigger picture, DF is about as easy to learn to use as a hammer and nails. Learning to use hammer and nails doesn't give you the ability to build a nice house, though - that knowledge is elsewhere.
