Does anybody know how to whip up great looking nebulas for space scenes. I don't mean crappy star trek stuff, I mean those gorgeous ones of EVE (MMORPG). I've tried to use volumetric noises on lights and the glacial Pyrocluster to get something goiing but no luck. A long time ago I bought the Pelham shaders but when he turned them into freeware he didn't bring the GREAT nebula shader along (a volumetric colored nebula shader that looked great at the time), unfortunately the nubula shader no longer works in Cinema (it hasn't since version 7 I believe).
I need true volumetric nebulas that can be rendered from multiple directions and get affected by lightsources in them (you know, like real nebulas ;).

do you mean the gas clouds that you can fly through in eve or the huge nebula backgrounds that can't ever be reached?

I want the cake, and eat it too.
I want the nebula you cannot reach (the skybox) that sort of defines the ecliptic(horizon) of each starsystem, but I want to be able to fly through them. Actually, being able to move the camera around is the most important aspect.

I want to fly through the nebula and is should still look like that skybox nebula encirkling the ecliptic/horizon. Yes, I want to have the cake and eat it too.
I've given up on Pyrocluster but volumetric clouds with SLA alphas look promising. A good thing with that setup is that you can use small occluders (invisible by camera, casting shadows) to produce localized dark nebulas.
I still long for that Pelham shader though...

in ditools 1.4 there is a volume shader which seems to me to be faster than say using a volumetric light...its still slow but might be worth looking at if 1.4 is out...and of course you can fly through it...just use 3d noise as shader in it..and drop on a sphere.
