hi guys

Last couple of days i've been strugling with IK for a character for a school project. This is the first time for me to completly rig a character. I thought i knew how to, but apparently i really underrestimated this stuff.
As a reference i used the Bee-Man setup from the LW8 content CD. But somehow i can't get it to work the same way on my character. I think i missed some settings or something else, but it makes me really frustrated.
I wish i could explain it more clearly but i really don't see what i do wrong, or where i go wrong so it is hard to be more precize.

Does anybody know some kind of guide, or example i could use? It only has to walk and make some simple movements so it doesn't has to be some super advanced guide or example rig.

I really hope someone can help me with this because i really want to finish this part of our project this year, there's still a lot of other stuff i still have to do.

thanx in advance

The best thing to do is post the scene, then we can examine it and see what's amiss.

If we don't know the exact problem, it's hard to give useful advice without explaining in detail everything about IK.

which part is not working properly?

also, i find it best to have your bones bent at the knees and elbows. That way you have a bit mroe control

There is a good free rigging tutorial at http://3d-palace.com/video.php?vid=38 It has most of the basic info and is easy to follow.

I sure will.
It's still pretty difficult to make decent movements but i think i'm getting there.

And when this school project is finished i will get deeper into IK, so i don't have to bother you guys anymore

To be honest that rig wouldnt be what I would consider to be completely set up for animating. Its far more stable then the previous one youre using. Drop me an email if youre having some problems. :)

it is good enough for the simple animations i need to do i guess.
But the way the guy walks right now is kinda weird :) i hope to fix that today.

but if i get stuck i'll let you know.

One thing you could do is find an example of a walk cycle in an animation book. Scan it and use it behind your character in layout as a pose guide. You could also video tape someone walking, capture that and also use it to rotomate with. :)

here is what i have got until now.

I think the upperbody moves quite natural already but the legs look like it's a cyborg

When you walk your body tends to go up and downat the waste. At the moment your character is just flat. Also you need some more movement in the hips.

Try and get your hands on some video references if you can.

Not too bad. When the legs are out front where the heel just makes contact with the ground make the legs straighten. They look a little strange because they stay bent. :)
