View Full Version : Best Modeling Solution
kpwproductions 12-28-2004, 07:32 AM I wad wondering what each of you thought is the best modeling answer between using polys, subD, or NURBS for CG in movies and what the industry leaders are looking for. I have been learning NURBS head patching and have heard around the forums that the technique is no longer something larger companies do - and I obviously do not want to continue learning a technique that is not even being used much anymore.
I guess what my real question is - what modeling technique should I look into using that is currently being used by professionals?

There is no such thing as "The one true modelling tool", you should master them all.

Right. The more you know the better. One suggestion though. For hard surfaces like objects or enviroment NURBS modeling imho is the better and easier way, especially if the surface structure is a bit more complicated. For organic stuff like characters use polygons or subDs. Depending on what you feel comfortable with.

Ah, great - thanks so much for your advice, my professors here at SCAD have said the same thing - nice to know everyone is on the same page.
