View Full Version : IK help, please
joshcxa 12-27-2004, 10:46 AM I'm trying to do the IK for the legs of a character. I've rigged a few characters before and they've all been successful buf for some reason i can't work out whats going wrong here.
When i change the Pitch controller of the ankle to IK it messes up (as shown below). It also does this for the shin bone. Parent in place is on btw.

I usually have the ankle set up as the end effector (attached to GOAL object).

either way, this setup usually works. I just can't figure out why the bone is doing that...

Sometimes you get a scene that just wont work right. Its happened to me before but extremely rare.

i'd check to make sure your lower bones are targeting the correct nulls.

I can't see how that setup would work, you have no control over the ankle placement if that particular bone is on IK.
I'd check your earlier setups if it's worked before and look for differences.
As Splinegod suggested, the ankle is usually used as the goal for the leg in a foot setup.

Sometimes Ive found that I *thought* I did something one way and I was mistaken.
Do you have an old rig you can reload and look at? I also tend to experiment with simpler setups to see if a particular setup will work.

Thats what has got me stumped. I'm looking at an old rig done exactly the same way (i think...i'm pretty sure...) and works perfectly fine.
Another thing I can think of is that I drew the ankle skelegon in the wrong viewport, but then i again i don't think i did.

I worked out the prob. I forgot a step. The ankle raising is supposed to happen, after that i grab the ankle null and rotate it so the foot is flat.
