Hi,

I´ve 3 years of experience with Lightwave, and since it´s getting a bit "old" I´m thinking on moving to a more powerful app: Softimage or Maya

Please, don´t flame :) I just want critical reviews of both apps: modeling, rendering, particles Dynamics, Market... above all "pros and contras" of both programs.

I have some months of experience with Maya and nothing with SI. For now I´m a Laws student, maybe in the future I decide to be profesional in 3D, thats one of the reasons I would like to move to one of this apps.

Thanks a lot! :)

and I think the answer you'll get if you do trawl for the many similar posts, is that there isn't a better one. It's very much up to you. You should go to the both sites have a go with the learning editions of both to see which fits you better.

Go with XSi if u have LW experience, the UI feels somewhat at "home" and many things are similar, besides XSI (Foundations) is cheaper than Maya :D

It is pretty much a personal taste.

If you are going to simulation, I suggest to use Maya, for extensive subdiv modelling, animating (especially characters) I suggest XSI.

I prefer XSI, for the interface (it`s the best I`ve seen), for it`s modelling tools, the histories, and the animating, etc.

To me, Maya is too unfriendly, and doesn`t want to work I`d like to.
