BEAUTIFULL:thumbsup: But could you not use some bump displacement on the rocks? That way it would be even better, or really perfect!

oh yeah, that a great image!
De-Cypher said it, it reminds of a dream :)
very nice piece of art
maybe a slight zoom out would make composite more intresting!?
please send a wire..
like to know whats mesh and wants texture:)
Amazing, great work. I'd love it if you made a super highres so I can make it a poster on my wall :p It reminds me of some of the artwork from the Myth games.

very nice!
didnt giger do a variation of the Bröcklin image? or something very similar?
Ah that Boecklin (not BRoecklin btw :)) hangs in Basler Kunstmuseum in Switzerland...our art teacher used to gather us around it because he liked it so much, hehe.

Very nice interpretation of it! Yours looks less depressing

it looks like a very nice image:) i dont think it needs any displacement. but what could make it look "bigger" is maybe if the atmosphere affected the water. meaning if it was a bit less reflective.
( im not too keen on physics but can deep water be as reflective as in that image!?)
maybe adding fog to the water could help?

thank u guys :)
Yes! I wanted to make it less depressing!
this is why its called "romantic"...
Giger did also a few versions of this painting, u can find
it there (http://giger.pp.ru/pics/Island_of_Death_After_Boecklin.jpg.shtml)
and here is the wireframe for the technical lovers :)
not very optimized and I know! the trees are not 3d!
but its like a matte no? ;)
see ya!

I've always loved that painting and I love your render of it.
I wanna see a rollecoaster (Riven style) animation on that island

hey dude,
1) ambient is right, water is a bit too reflective.
2)the mountain on my left(the one which looks like a kings throne) looks very straight(back).
3)bg is married to the fg seamlessly...most cg environments fail due to sticking a map in the environment channel's...how'd you manage that(technical process).
4)romantic...but also with a sense of foreboading...generally when i see birds circling around a island i think(or programmed to...) something is dead or theres eeevvvilll(austin powers ;) ).may be they could splash across the sky diagonally to give some angular relief to the composition imho...obviously.
5)it's these kind environments that make me go sighhh...what a beautiful world !!!.

and thats also the reason why we shouldn't listen to Carl Orff, I imagine??
I've never heard that hitler was interersted by bocklin...even its right, bocklin was not fachist...he was a symbolist painter like the others, don't think ur post is helpfull.

Fantastic!
Strikes a chord with me. You understand the importance of shadowing, leaving much to the imagination of the viewer.

I forgot to say:
You did a great job.
I like this image very much, as I like most of Böcklin's pictures.
But this is my favourite.
Once again: Great job!

That is some nice in-game art you got there on your website.
(at first sight, hard to believe its even real-time)
I think you've got talent for cinematography, some pictures of that highlander game rival the stuff you see in features.
i especially like the city stuff. very film noir-ish
ps.
what exactly did you do on the backgrounds? all of it??
Raphael-Lacoste
09-05-2002, 12:38 PM
thanks stefan,
I did all this backgrounds (shown on my website) for the game project of highlander...its a shame thats the ship went down :(
and for ur concern all this pictures are for real time engine, (under 15,000 polygons, for GEforce 2) except the picture of the inside church, which was done for a cinematic ;)
see ya!

It´s realy beautfull. Very originaly creation.
Maybe the trees should have some color correction, in fact, I almost don´t percept that there were trees in the image, but it´s all interpretation!
Good work, I realy like it.

Ouah putaing t'as tué là !

or maybe i was just hallucinating...?
