I dont know if anyone else has come across this, but a couple of years ago in college, i made an image, and sent it to print. When i went to get it, it was the colour and all that, but, where there was solid black, it had a texturised effect, not image based, but physical ink based.

Later i found out that, the image was RGB and i sent it to a CMYK printer, its how the printer tries to understand the RGB information and converting it to information to direct the printer. This is no SERIOUS problem, but it is a nice effect if ur printing something like a tiger or similar things with nice patterns of black.

So yeah, something u could all use. Btw, i think it works best on toner printers, not ink.

Interesting. May I ask where you sent it, and did you know the profile for the printer, or the type of printer before you sent it?

i cant rememeber the profile since this was like 2yrs ago. But it was a canon cmyk laser printer, and im pretty sure we just used the generic profile in photoshop for that printer.

On some prints, it looks ugly, cus it doesnt fit the style really, but i found it "eye catching" for tiger fur and things like that.

I guess this is related to a trick you can do with cmyk printing. Since black "swallows" all other colors you can use pure black, and then black blended with, lets say 10% of the other colors to get a more solid "black".

Never done it personally though, but it's not uncommon to see such tricks in ads. I would guess that the effect also depends a bit on what kind of paper was used.

Very interesting, I haven't heard that before, might try it out of curiosity.
