View Full Version : Bodypaint Questions

finally starting to grok BP, but I have a couple of questions:

1. Is it possible to get the model view to rotate around the selected UV points/polys the same way it does when you have object points/polys selected?

2. Is there anything comparable to tweak mode when you're adjusting UV points? It's pretty annoying to have to click each point twice to adjust it (once to pick it and the second time to move it).

TIA

1) not afaik unless you select your points in an open view window (at hte same time as having a uv window open).

2)use the magnet tool set to closest point method, with a radius of 0%

1. hmmm. If i select the points with the points tool, the axis jumps to centre on the selection, and the view rotates around it--but if i select the points using the UV points tool, the axis is invisible, and the view rotates around some arbitrary pt (presumably 0,0,0). but unless you use the UV points tool, you can't see the points on your UV map/texture view. so i end up toggling back and forth between them alot when finessing a UV map.

2. thank you, thank you, thank you. interestingly, I have to set the percentage to 1 to get this to work, but what a saver.

Rest assured it's been brought to Maxon's attention, but if you want to add your vote please let them know directly via their web form. The more complaints (or suggestions :)) the more likely it is to be addressed.

I am hoping the active tool manager reappears myself..,amongst other bits also..

Adam: thanks. I guess I'll add my voice to the chorus. I don't use overlay mode much myself, but it does seem pretty arbitrary that it's not in there.

Kiwi: It's pretty straightforward to put it back yourself. Just make a new Attribute manager, and configure its modes to show only tools.

Thanx :)..ya thats how I set it up to get around the problem. There was just something about the active tool manager which was a bit snappier with workflow though I remember.

[QUOTE=artemesia66]Adam: thanks. I guess I'll add my voice to the chorus. I don't use overlay mode much myself, but it does seem pretty arbitrary that it's not in there.

Without a proper overlay mode, transferring the Light/shade characteristics from on channel to another becomes a real pain - as none of the modes in BP can match this.

What's worse is that if you set up a correctly layed .psd file in Photoshop, then try to open and save in BP, it trashes any modes it doesn't understand.

I suspect that the absence of these modes (and others) is more to do with patented algorithms - which are owned by big players like Adobe. My guess is that BP was flying too close to PS's sails, and the cost of providing total parity with PS was too high.

This might also explain why BP claims to PS compatible are a bit bogus (PS 5.5, perhaps). I think they modified the web-site after me (and other complained that it was misleading. as PS 7 was out when BP was released :-).

This lack of blending can be overcome in 'post' by combining the bits-maps and overlaying them with C4Ds shaders (Fusion, etc which, strangely, seem to have the full compliment of useful layer modes)

???

Another thing...You can't even constrain the brush to paint in straight lines by control dragging (?) that's another glaring omission.

Lining up rows of UV is a pain.

It's been a while since I used BP, primarly because of this lack of overlay modes.

While had some interesting conversations with Maxon about this (very eager to listen), I fear it's all down to money...

Hmm, seems odd there would be a licensing issue with overlay and BP but not with overlay and the rest of the material system. Is that something Maxon said or just conjecture on your part?

PS: cool show reel!
